Cricket making comeback in Germany

Berlin (CNN)Nooruddin Mujaddady tries not to think about the events that led him to flee Afghanistan.

The death threats against his family back home, the grueling months-long journey to Europe, and the anxiety of his new life in Germany are constant weights on his mind. When he can, Mujaddady prefers to focus on cricket.
Standing on Berlin's Maifeld sports ground during a recent finals day of the German Cricket Federation's nationwide Super Series, the 25-year-old told CNN that when he plays cricket he doesn't think of "anything else -- just cricket and sport".

Will be on the lookout for games I can watch

A good story. It shows how much the face of cricket has changed in Germany. I once had a work colleague who played for Germany in the 1990s. He said back then so few people played cricket in Germany you just had to turn up to make the team.

In their WCL-D5 1st match vs Ghana (which Germany narrowly won), I was looking at the team names and, with the possible exception of Brandon Ess, didn't find any German-sounding surnames, according to my estimation. WCL team members, 2017.

BTW, congrats to Ghana; they won their 2nd match (against Vanatu) to remain in contention. ...Ninesey??

The standard must be about the same as the CC.com curry-goat matches... so you could even get to play rather than just watch! lol

lol lol I put up the news on their msg board (you know which) and got one deggeh-deggeh response: "What is that, Cricket?" HeHeHe!

At least all the players' names seem indigenous. Some friends told me that Achimota in Accra and some other schools in Cape Coast do play and compete.

Didn't know that; cool. I'll be in Agogo (Eastern Ashanti), which is not all that far. Perhaps I'll organise something there.

Thanks, Maas Ewie. Have had to put much priority in some other things so CCC has been one casualty. But I've been passing through and catching up from time to time though (an' yuh done know seh me read you, LOL).
