Camp David now instead of flying to and showcasing his property every weekend.

Perhaps someone told him Congress will not increase the Secret Service's budget, or ease Secret Service compensation rules, so that he can waste more taxpayer money. He was likely given two options - use Camp David on weekends, or travel to his properties without Secret Service protection
