damage to the US than it did to the Caribbean. The thing is, you never know, so it's better to be overprepared.
Clearly, it is generating less wind speed.

I have a feeling this hurricane is doing far less
Jose making amends, shifting the Caribbean and heading straight for the Florida coast

This is going to make people more reluctant to evacuate during the next hurricane and then it might hit hard.

All Floridians need to be grateful for Cuba today. That small change in course that took Irma over the rough Cuban topography was surely the main weakening factor. Irma struggled to complete an ERC after the landfall over Cuba and weakened rapidly once moving inland from Naples. Yes there is devastation and yes it is horrible. But just think about how much worse it could have been. Thank you Cuba 🇨🇺

Hurricane damage is not limited to winds, but all the flooding than can occur. People make a fuss about being asked to leave and then complicate things for themselves and others when they remain home and the flooding occurs. As a famous politician once said, "Get your ass off the Beach" when the authorities tell you to do so, when danger is approaching.
