It may not have been the desired result for Northern Panthers or Combined Universities and Colleges in their opening Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Super League contest, but considering the circumstances, a point was good enough.

Both teams played to a draw in the two-day fixture at GC Foster College yesterday, after losing the entire first day without play on Saturday due to a wet outfield.

Scores: Combined Universities and Colleges 145 all out (61 overs); Northern Panthers 55-6 (24 overs)

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, the Panthers made early inroads into the Combined Colleges batting line-up, which left the hosts struggling at 86 for six at lunch.


Left-arm spinner Christopher Lamont, who ended with four wickets for 59 runs, joined forces with fellow spinner and Captain Damani Sewell (2-33) and left-arm seamer Gavon Brown (3-23) to easily dispatch the top and middle order.

But poor fielding on the part of the Panthers allowed the Combined Colleges to reach to their eventual total after a brief rain delay. The slow batting surface coupled with a thick outfield made runs hard to come by.

Captain Paul Palmer made a top score of 34, followed by Odane Vassell, who was last man out for 21, and former West Indies youth player Michael Frew (19).

The Panthers, in reply, slipped to 55-6 when bad light stopped play.

John Campbell with 26 offered most resistance against medium pacer Ojay Shields, who grabbed four wickets for 10 runs.
Shane Brooks, assistant manager/coach of Combined Universities and Colleges, credited the effort of his team playing without front-line players Chadwick Walton and Rovman Powell. Both are away on West Indies duty.

The spoils were also shared between Western Warriors and Eastern Tigers in their contest at Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

Scores: Western Warriors 181-9 (54.2 overs); Eastern Tigers 153-4 (39 overs)



Resuming on their overnight score of four without loss, Garth Garvey with a top score of 72 and Tareque White (25), posted a 51-run opening stand which set the tone for the Tigers to bat through the entire day until play was called off.

Brandon King was left unbeaten on 27. Reynard Leveridge led the Warriors bowling with 2-53.

Southern Seals took most points by virtue of first-innings honours in their contest against Central Titans at Treasure Beach Sports Park in St Elizabeth.



Scores: Southern Seals 151 all out & 124-4 (44 overs); Central Titans 147 all out (57 overs)

Resuming at 59-2, the Titans were restricted to 147 with Trevon Griffiths (32) and Stephen Taylor (30) making most runs. Left-arm spinner Fabian Allen notched 5-45.

The Seals in their second innings were 124-4 when play was stopped. Allen was left unbeaten on 37, with Zeniffe Fowler contributing 30, against Odean Brown's 2-23.

Interesting to see how Reynard Leveridge will go in this tournament...do you know if those two CPL youngsters Smith and Thomas are involved in this ?
