It's been over 54 years or so
They do have great processes in place
Should they step up their planning?

Can Barbados handle a Cat 3/4?
In reply to DirtyDan
No territory in this region can handle a Cat4.
That said some territories have improved their building standards because of hurricanes or earthquakes.
Barbados has a serious roof problem.
What's more this region as a whole will not recover in my lifetime.
In reply to DirtyDan
no..
We cant even handle a category one.
any more soft ball questions?

But Bim seemed so organized during Emily 11 years ago
Bim can take heed from these latest happening and plan accordingly
In reply to Chrissy and powen
I'm hearing a lot of conflicting messages, a couple of posters on here said the houses are sturdier than the U.S. and now you are saying, they have roof problems and cannot handle a cat one.
In reply to black
How many houses in the USA can handle a cat 4/5, more research is required as how we install roof to small structure
In reply to DirtyDan
They're welcome in T&T.
In reply to black
Listen bro middle class homes are sturdier than homes in the US but in some territories, particularly those that have not been hit by a serious hurricane, roofs are suspect. We build with concrete inside and outside unlike many US homes.
On the other hand the quality of homes among our poor are way inferior to the US homes outside of trailer parks.
In all hurricane territories developers have pulled a fast one on citizens (often with help from politicians) and people are living in places where no one should live - be they gully banks, river beds, bayous, converted swamps, etc.

I'm not even sure Barbados can handle a CAT 2 to be honest. Even a tropical storm seems to be problems and we have flooding now in some areas with every heavy rainfall. Our emergency services seem to be better organized than some of the other islands but I think it'd be rough going for Bim if they get a direct hit
In reply to DirtyDan
bro...
Barbados has become complacent ...we all know it...and most of us thinking people are thankful that we have been spared ....thus far.
Barbados is usually more organized but at the risk of stirring up the yard fowls here...truth is simple things like Garbage collection and keeping the country clean seem to be too much these days for us.
We know we cant take a thing about here...Do you realize that several roofs have been blown off in Bim...with just tropical depressions and barely tails of a few of these systems?
Bimshire cant take a ting.
In reply to powen001
Our economy is so fragile even the big bad wolf could blow us down. I blame Sudden for the re-election.
It has to be a good 200 years since Barbados suffered a monster hurricane.
Reports were that Janet in 1955 had 115 mph winds..Category 3

what about your roof problem....
Barbados is full of smart people. They will learn from others mistakes and plan well. At least that's what I am hoping, Poorly built homes will go, but lives will be spared by suitable community efforts. They are good at this, I think.

Che...you really want to try propaganda with me?
1 Where were We before?
2 How many downgrades have we had?
3...and the softball...Do you feel safer and better off in Barbados 2017 than 10 years ago...man..even 5 years ago?
In reply to Curtis
I am confident that we will pull together and work it out...
I m confident that most of us will still look after each other instead of resorting to violence.
guess what: People who were peaceful law abiding people ended up looting too in some of the islands just hit...
difference...they looked for food and toiletries...while jackasses were stealing tv sets and electronics.
I would loot for a Satellite Phone...PELON..what say you?
In reply to powen001
You really are something else.
For you everything is about taking shots at government.
You are one of those silly yard fowls.
Stupse.
In reply to nick2020
you are way too shallow to keep a train of thought so lets give you dot to dot s in Kindergarden.
1: Topic...can Bim take a cat 5?
Simple answer NO...
If we fail to do simple things that prevent disease and flooding...and even inforce building codes...how in heavens name can we be ready for serious Hurricane weather?
still too hard for you to follow slow poke?
facts always scare wunnuh defensive dems ent?
In reply to powen001
Nah... they will fail... heavy cloud cover (during storms ok) in our region makes sat phones suffer. Stick with what I told you: HF Radio (and it is free, runs off car battery in a pinch). That is why Ross University came to our team: to replace the Sat Phone Comms last week.
This nonsense about what Cat Hurricane Bim would survive... foolishness: what country anywhere does well in a Cat 3+ Hurricane.
Bim has 1000 problems right now, and infrastructure will suffer with ANY direct hit.
In reply to pelon
cha..now see that?
That is critical information.
I was seeing all the Sat phones in Dominica and wanted your input...you pretty much just laid it out.
I cant afford to pay you for these lessons...just saying

When I see this for a little outer band I am worried that Bridgetown would be in deep deep water if anything significant cam by
In reply to Curtis
hospital is less than 1/2 mile from there at low elevations and feeder roads at low elevations... + no air drop support
In reply to pelon
yes, worrisome
meaning should there be an event, vitals need to be relocated to back-up sites, which should be up and running at 50% all now so
In reply to Curtis
Worse: we have no back-up Surgical ER facilities outside of St. Michael
All roads to the hospital are serious flood risk zones. Stadium would become EOC - central command.

A buddy has been teasing me, of the formation of Barbados for about 12 years.
He is a geologist, studied at LSU and did a lot of study in the region.
He think Barbados was the left over of the Volcanic Ash, he calls it S...te, and a big hurricane will send it, in the ocean.
He love sailing.

all I see is limestone for miles in Coles Cave
In reply to openning
da mofo prolly summa cum laude at MLHV
In reply to openning
Bim is mostly limestone.
It's twice as big under water.
Any flooding in Bim will eventually run off.
