A lot of US politics is "anybody but the other guy". For many, Hillary was more repugnant than anyone.
As for the rise of Trump, the fella managed to defeat the entire GOP establishment, and handily at that - before conquering the Democratic opponent with a sweep of "flyover country".
Would the country be better off with a Bush, Cruz, Christie, Rubio, Kasich? Seemingly, they were hated even moreso by the Democrat supporters.
It's kind of fascinating, if you weren't terrified that Trump is on the verge of causing global panic.

Clueless yes. I honestly believe it was his way of taking a dig at a previous administration (even if it's a "fellow republican" Dubya), in an effort to make this relief effort under his administration seem superior.
In other words, the disaster he MAY have been referring to was the relief effort, rather than this hurricane and its aftermath.
But I have to believe he too STUPID & IGNORANT to realize what he doing.
