Based on ICC points system, West Indies does not have much to gain by playing Zimbabwe, in fact, if we win all two matches WI will only gain 2 points which does not really help in advancing pass the number 7 team.
While WI has much to lose as one loss match or even a draw will see Bangladesh hurling pass WI into 8th position while we are relegated to cellar position of 9th. I cannot understand CWI decision to play Zimbabwe at this time.

Why play Zim? Nothing to gain all to lose
In reply to Slipfeeler
So you think WI should pick and choose who to play in Test cricket?
What reality are you living in?
In reply to Slipfeeler
winning a test match is nothing to gain for wi

In reply to NineMiles
No just that we have nothing to gain from this series but all to lose and they already have me worried.
In reply to Slipfeeler
Thats no reason not to play them.
Using your reasoning, there is no need for any of the top nations to play WI...as there is a danger they could lose points.
In reply to NineMiles
Agreed but they are willing to play WI for they rationalize that we are easy winning points.

Concerned that Slipfeeler is ...not all here

Arguing from a points perspective necessary for advancement in world rankings.
WI have to beat the teams beneath them, it is good practice, it toughen the young guys up for better competition. If some of the guys cannot do well against Zimbabwe they do not deserve selection for NZ, attention Kyle, Shane.

Ambris, Cornwall, Hamilton, Cariah, Singh, Campbell are all waiting for an opportunity, although they didn't advance their cause in the 2nd A team match. What will be the direction if WI gets another beat down like against Afghanistan?
That's why I am rooting for them to win this ill-advised series.

should we ask ICC to cancel the upcoming Ashes and play England and Australia one after the other?
In reply to shivnotout
You guys are devoid of the reality surrounding the WI team.
In reply to doosra
No we stand to gain by playing higher ranked teams if we could pull off a win.
In reply to Slipfeeler
and that sir, we have little control over, because we hanging low at 8 or 9...
In reply to Slipfeeler
What nonsense conversation this? We should play everybody who willing to play us because we need to win games. You talking about points when we still haven't even started to win consistently. And guess who we have a better chance of beating? You must think our team is India or Australia. What we need is more team to beat, whether we go gain points or not.
In reply to Slipfeeler
You could not play higher ranked teams in the 80s..you are not able to play higher ranked teams now..

West Indies should set the fixtures not ICC
A comparison of Test batting averages....
Powell (26) vs Masakadza (28 )
Brathwaite (36) vs Ervine (37)
Kyle (6) vs Mire (26)
Shai (31) vs Williams (29)
Chase (38 ) vs Raza (39)
Blackwood (32) vs Waller (23)
Dowrich (23) vs Taylor (34)
Holder (28 ) vs Chakabva (27)
Maybe we should play zimbabwe more often.
In reply to Slipfeeler
What's the ranking now with a 1-0 series win? I think we lost some points....
I think it's West Indies in eighth with 75 points, with Bangladesh not far behind in ninth on 72 points.

Thank you! That was my basic rational for writing this post, somehow guys were unable to comprehend the simple circumstances surrounding WI precarious situation. We now lost points due to the drawn 2nd match.
Something is usually gained from playing a series than not playing one. The Selectors are now more aware of the players who need to be release for players who needs to be given a chance at the International level. Also adjustments have to be made on how the team plays in some situations.
In reply to Slipfeeler
You think CWI has the option to NOT play Zimbabwe?
The rational for your post was flawed..as it assumes CWI has any control over who they play, or like teams are lining up for the chance to play us
You ever heard of a thing called the ICC Future Tours programme?
That is really why you were being mocked, your post seemed to show a lack of knowledge as to how international cricket works
Even taking away the weirdness about wanting Windies to not play teams ranked below them, it doesn't matter, the ICC agreed to a 9-3 test league.
So any Windies supporter worried that they won't get to play Tests against England and be stuck with fixtures against Ireland and Afghanistan, don't fret. Meritocracy is still being tempered for the time being.
In reply to Slipfeeler... this to us is like we to England just before the Ashes. NZ look out.
