It’s so easy to fool the West 
Changes in places like SA don’t come overnight. I don’t think anyone in the West is being fooled, but awaits what this purge is going to really mean going forward.
The Clerics and those others who seemed to have lost power and influence will attempt to fight back. It is not as if they are locked up in a dungeon. The princes are being held in a Riz Carlton for pete’s Sake.
MBS is testing the waters. Did you know the US was first made aware of this move ahead of time?
He visited the US a couple of weeks age for a meeting with Trump and Kushner paid a secret visit to SA last week to be discuss what the move by MBS could mean for SA and the region.
That is now being claimed as a visit to help with the Middle East peace effort after it was leaked.

There is something underlying this and it isn’t modernisation
The US had better be careful they are not seen as enablers of a ruling faction...again
