Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Ghana notable absentees although their footballers are playing with European clubs, with experience like that it was a surprise.

They were due for a decline. Ivory Coast lost Drogba and the Toure guys for example.

It is understandable the loss of players,but Ivory Coast you sort of consider them like the Brazil of Africa,many thought they would be the African team to win a WC,or get close.

Yeah they should really have done better in the finals themselves. Yes they got some difficult groups but they failed to reach the knockout stage. At least Ghana came close to a semifinal berth.

Africa qualifying is brutal though, the group draws can be rough, esp with only one team from each advancing. Maybe Ghana would have emerged if they were in Tunisias group for instance.
Maybe they are in need of a Hex type final round

Africa tally should be increased by at least anothe 3 or 4 teams,like CONCACAF another 2.

With world travel so much easier than 1930, the way the zones are done should be consolidated. Combine Africa and Oceania for example and allow more spots.

Concacaf and South America can be combined.

Get rid of all those preliminary matches, create ten zones and make it like a European type qualification.

Those 30 Caribbean teams of nuisance value will be feeder points for the big teams...like San Marino and Luxembourg in Europe.

3 from North African, 2 from West Africa.... I believe this is the first time N African has more than W Africans since the African contingent was increased to 5.

Africa's contingent will be increased to 9 and Concacaf to 6 for the 2026 WC

This is also the first time Egypt have qualified since 1990.
