What ‘West Indies’ means*
What’s in a name?
In the matter of the West Indies, it means both nothing and everything. No, this isn’t some rambling philosophical foolishness on a Monday morning but a simple acknowledgement of the status of a name which is an obvious geographical misrepresentation at the same time that it has become, after more than a hundred years of usage, a unique cricketing identity that has left an indelible mark on the global game.
There’s no point beating around the bush on this one: this decision by Cricket West Indies to identify all regional teams as the “Windies” is not one that can be easily accepted.

I am of the opinion that the name should always be West Indies , The Big
Idiots fail to understand that renaming the Team WINDIES is making the Region a Laughing Stock in the Commonwealth .
TO RENAME THE TEAM WINDIES WHEN IN
FACT IN 2 OF THE THREE FORMATS OF THE
GAME WE ARE NOT WINNING MATCHES IN
THE LONGER VERSIONS OF THE GAME IS
CLEARLY A GROSS ACT OF STUPIDITY .
Calling the team WINDIES , with emphasis on the first 3 letters WIN
is a Travesty , due to the fact as I
have stated , in the longer format of the game our Teams & Players performances cannot be described as Stellar .
Windies is a catchy phrase ,however it is a millstone around Our Players necks & the Region as a whole for the
reason I have stated above .
Obviously if the Big Idiots were to
put in place very serious measures to ensure that our Players & Teams would be very competitive in the ALL versions of the game , then WINDIES
could be appropriate .
Unfortunately that aint the Freaking case .I am reminded of the adage :
" FOOLS RUSH IN WHERE
WISE MEN FEAR TO TREAD "

It is my firm believe that the Members
of the Worst International Cricket
Board in the Commonwealth , aka the
WICBC/CWI changed the name because
the Greatness of Our Players & Teams
are akin to being a Millstone around
their Individual & Collective Necks .
I do not believe that they intend to
make our Players fully Competitive in
the International Cricket Arena . So
they changed the name , with the belief that there will not be a comparison between current Players and those who brought Honour & Glory
to the Region .

About 20 years ago this name change would have provoked outrage. But this name change has been met with indifference in the region. That's the biggest indictment of all.

Well said. I am worried it is an indictment of how people feel about West Indies Cricket.
In addition, the media has almost remained muted.

The Media in the Region , are currently BootLickers of those in the
governance of Cricket in the Region .
It should be quite evident to All &
Sundry that the WICBC/CWI Sycophants
in the Media have Aided & Abetted their Masters in the WICBC/CWI in
their wilful destruction of Our Players Competitiveness in the International Cricket Arena .
