President Trump SHOULD have left them in jail in China..but if he had, the media(Which NEVER covered the story of these three thugs shoplifting, didnt fit the narrative) would have called Trump a racist saying if they were three white boys he would have gotten them released.

America insist that its laws be respected by all visitors, as demonstrated over the years....Hell America even
wants to prosecute those who live overseas...Jack...Noriega...bring them to America fro Justice.

Its why I don't bat an eyelid when Americans get caught in other Judiciary, especially if they are guilty as hell.

Local laws must be respected, whether its Saudi, Singapore, Indonesia......Chinese or Russian.

Yes Trump is everything they say, no argument, but unlike Trump who can wheel and deal his ass out of anything, all they have is Daddy Bell and their God given talents and ability.

Some time back a yank teenager, got caught in Singapore, doing graffiti in the people's place. A big no no.. Singapore justice came down on him hard.....simple respect, thats all.

Universities were once the citadel of the civil rights, black power movements. Are these youths the now end product?...maybe they are freshmen and will learn. I certainly hope so..

You are right...they are black, and have to be extra careful in all that they do. I have buddies that went to China with mixed experiences. Most Chinese are curious about blacks- some have never seen a black person(black not brown)...many are downright racist...one thing for sure...all eyes would be on them for one reason or the other. Education, awareness and sense of self were missing.

Same as that stupid boy who played with the laws in Singapore.

You telling me about the punishment meted out over in those kind of lands is neither here nor there. I know all about that. We all do. I am dealing with theivery, point blank. My point is, they are the same as the one who is acting high mighty as if he is unlike them - not a thief.

Everybody agrees that the shoplifting incident was terrible judgement by the persons involved. Yes, they're extremely fortunate to have been able to return to the US. Anything involving suspensions or whatnot, is a pittance compared to what they could have been facing.

Trump, whether by calculated design or an inflated sense of 'look at me', called out the players.

And Lavar Ball, always seeking the chance to promote Big Baller Brand, gleefully jumped into the fray. Nothing to lose for him.

Just another case of the proverbial wedge being drawn between sides based on political affiliation (with race as an added piece).

He should have been left in jail, just to eat chowmein for BLD - breakfast lunch dinner!

Not for shoplifting. Something more egregious like rape..then yes..leave them in prison.

Mind you, Trump's involvement was coincidental because he happened to be there at the time of the incident. There would likely have been some U.S. diplomatic involvement considering the basketball trip was diplomatic in nature. Remember it's shoplifting, not murder. On another note, given the usual deviance of the average 19yr old male, some clemency should have been extended. Think back to when you were 19. Were you a paragon of virtue then?

Notwithstanding, once back on US soil, the punishment should have come down swiftly like an axe. Kick them off the team or suspend them for a year, at least. That will get their attention.
