I remember I bought an iPad in the big apple in 2012 and when I got back, I realized that I wouldn't have been able to use it without wi-fi.
Yep...until then, my laptop was always tethered to the ethernet cable. That's so unlike me....a lover of freedom.
Anyways, thanks to a colleague for helping me to select my Netgear which has faithfully provided reliable service....until now.
And it may not even be kaput, so I am giving it a rest and will try it in the morning. I almost never turn it off, even when I 'doh dey' (or 'eeen dey'...whichever Grenadianism one prefers.)

How long a wi-fi router supposed to last?
In reply to Yamfoot
Usually max 3-5 years. The WiFi standards change so often , hence newer faster models are released almost on a per yearly basis. The newest wave 2 stuff with MU-Mimo is pretty good if you're a high bandwidth user and pricing for these AP's has dropped significantly over the years. Most of the manufacturers seem to be hedging their bets on 802.11ax as the next big "goto" standard.

Are you having problems with your router? Unless something is really physically wrong with it or, somehow, worse, hacked, it should last quite a long time.
But if you are occasionally getting poor bandwidth service, it wouldnt hurt to reboot it. Unplug it from its power source for 20-30 sec and power it back up again. This usual solves quite a few problems.
The extreme action would be to reset it to its factory setting by sticking a pin in the little pinhole found at the back. You may have to input your password again.
Greetings from my wifi router. It was probably just tired. Or, maybe the signal into the Flow wifi was giving trouble because even when the ethernet was plugged into the laptop, the internet would come and go.

forever...i suppose
I have a router and a repeater for upstairs (needed the repeater because signal was being screwed by steel beams in the walls). Replaced the router after about 6 years as it seemed to fault on a too-regular basis. Repeater has acted up at times but it's still ticking.
I've tended to use the ProWI method when things are amiss.
