You should force your way into the 11, all things being equal.

That's how you do it Devon Thomas
In reply to Mustwin
Where will you bat him, if he make the X1?
In reply to openning
Brathwaite
Brooks
Chase
Bonner
Blackwood
Mayers
Thomas
Holder
Joseph
Roach
Seales
In reply to Mustwin
Why would you drop DaSilva, who scored a ton in the series against England, which help the team to win the series?
Is that the LI bias?
In reply to Mustwin
Itll be hard to drop Josh right now.

Rhetorical
Cannot just pick a team with no logic to it. Otherwise it just becomes 11 confused players without any specific plan.
First of all, Brooks is not an opener. If Brooks cannot make the team batting at numbers 3 - 5 then he does not make the team at all. The WI need to decide whether they wanna continue this experiment with Reifer at number 3 or play Brooks at number 3. But Brooks is not an opener and definitely should not play as an opener over Tage who was selected as the specialist opener. If for one moment you believe that a make shift opener would be better than Tage then you have to then ask yourself why select Tage in the first place.
Secondly, there is absolutely no reason to drop DaSilva. So why would you drop him just because Thomas made a half century in a warm up game?
Thirdly, given the composition of the team and the fact that Chase is not a specialist bowler - it means that a decision has to be made whether they want a batsman who can offer some spin or batsman who can offer some seam. That is a toss up between Mayers and Chase. In my mind both cannot play. Cannot weaken the bowling to play both.
Based on the 15 men who were selected to be in Australia this has to be thought process based on how the conditions of the pitch and any injuries:
1. Braithwaite
2. Chanderpaul
3. Brooks/Reifer (seeing apparently Reifer is being used at 3 by Phil Simmons)
4. Bonner
5. Blackwood
6. Mayers/Chase
7. Holder
8. DaSilva/Thomas
9. Joseph
10. Roach
11. Seales/Phillips
Reifer, Thomas and Phillips sits out for me. Chase plays if they feel he can be effective as a spinner. Mayers plays if pitch more suitable to seam bowler. Reifer should be used as a back up for Mayers and/or Holder. Not as a number 3.

Thank you. Some rational reasons.
Until we stop flag flying West Indies will always be a munnow!(lower than a minnow )

# 1 issue with windies in aus right now is a regions semi world class squad up against a top ranking world class squad.
Who in present windies lineup are genuinely world class?
1. Bratwaite
2. Holder
3. DaSilva
4. Thomas
5. Joseph
6. Roach
Other world class players in the region have been excluded. The others included are experimental only.
Selection issues therefore continue to bog windies cricket.
Here is Tage first class stats for the last regional tournament..
Matches - 5
Runs - 439 runs
Batting avg. - 73.16
100s - 2
Only Kraigg scored more runs than him in the last FC season.. One failure in a practice match and he out the XI?
In reply to anthonyp
Tage was never in the XI to begin with. He has yet to debut for West Indies
Devon Thomas seems like the opening partner for Kraigg..
He made a good score in the first innings which prompted them to try him in the opening slot with Tage and he again did well. Let's see if they continue to use him as an opener in the remaining warmups.
Stranger things have happened in Windies cricket ....
some player has to be drop for the 'anointed one'
There is never any logic in WI cricket, anything is possible, for example Reifer batting at 3
In reply to b4u8me2
You are considering dropping our best bowler statistically and arguably best batsman statistically ?
In reply to imusic
My bad... Well in that case he will warm the bench for big bats Devon Thomas or Brooks
I just realised de man got Chase at #3 too... A player who averaged around 12 with the bat in test cricket in the past 3 years or more.

Im not advocating that he warm bench either.
I just pointed out that he cant be out of the XI because he was never in to begin with.
By rights he should debut as the only other specialist opener.
But some peeps want it both ways
If he plays and succeeds
.rhey want to rub his success in others faces and boast I told you so
If he plays and fails
.theyll say he needs chances like others have had, its unfair that he debuts against an Oz pace attack on fast, bouncy pitches in Oz and label anyone that criticizes him as haters.
The build up of Tage, especially from some Guyanese posters, is understandable
..hes the son of their legend
.etc. Just like with Hety.
Then if they dont perform, same posters get vex and claim discrimination.
Lets see what happens. Good luck to Tage whatever happens

I have no problem with that 11 as that would be a swap between Brooks and Chase instead of subjecting Mayers to be dropped for the spin option if Chase. As long as the plan is not to sacrifice a specialist bowler to play Chase.

A number of fans on this mb believe in FOTD, one good inning and the player should be selected,
Our product is poor, we are not getting the consistency at the regional level, that why you keep the guys that is scoring the occasional 50 or ton.
In reply to b4u8me2
You speak of logic then say a possible #3 is not an opener. What if an opener falls 1st ball? Brooks is no Yagga nor Viv but we're they openers before asked to? This whole post has lots of jokes including the very opener
What about a hattrick in the first over
In reply to b4u8me2
Simply logic. These guys have to be pushed. Place belongs to no one but the captain. You are outperformed under the same conditions, you seat. Thomas is the better glove and he outperformed De Silva with the bat, he plays.
In reply to Brerzerk
Whilst a number 3 coming in to face the second ball of an inning is always a possibility it doesn't transform a number 3 into an opener. To equate the two roles highlights the lack of logic I am talking about. My number 3 is not a back up opener. He is a number 3. Your number 3 appears to be playing as a back up opener
An opener is a specialist in Test Cricket, so is a middle order bat and specifically a no. 3.
There are only two openers on tour so the openers should be Kraig and Taje. As far as I am aware they are only two batsmen in this squad that have consistently batted at 3 in FC, Brooks and Blackwood. Given Blackwood is the VC and is in fact one of the more credible of the lot batting at 5 and especially 6 in recent series, why would he not continue this role.
Of the others, Mayers 2 Test Hundreds and an average of 38 in 13 tests plus cheap wickets, Bonner, and DaSilva all play on merit. Certainly Mayers and DaSilva play on the basis of their most recent test performances.
The bowling picks itself, especially in Aussieland: Roachie, Holder, Joseph and Seales.

In reply to b4u8me2 Did you read the whole thing or just chose a quote that distorts the whole thing? Are Rowe and Richard's openers. Where they asked to open and did so successfully?
Yes, big bat Devon that's how you do it..
Spot secure

Mustwin who started this fuckery thread is sudden/overthrow/windiesfan78. The jackass who never played sports to any meaningful level tries to sound knowledgeable. Thomas should not be in the squad far less replacing DaSilva. Alzarri Joseph merits his place not Thomas.
