T&T tackle Canada to earn berth in CONCACAF U-20 Championship

The Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 men’s football team will be going hard for a win against their Canadian counterparts in their Group D qualifying series fixture, tonight, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, with a spot at the 2024 CONCACAF U-20 Championship at stake. That tournament is scheduled to take place in Mexico in July. Tonight’s action gets under way from 7 p.m. Both T&T and Canada sit on six points but Canada possess a superior goal difference over T&T, meaning that with a draw they would qualify for the 12-team tourney later this summer. For the hosts, nothing less than a win will do and T&T coach Brian Haynes has a plan. “We are going to outwork them... that is the first thing.

“Then we will try to outplay them and then last, and most important, try to outscore them because there is no other way to beat an opponent that’s as formidable as they are so that’s what we need to do and if we do those three things, I think we will come out ahead,” Haynes told the media following T&T’s 5-0 win over Dominica in Port of Spain on Sunday night.Asked about leading the T&T attack, Noel said, “the responsibility is pretty hard because you have to score your chances and carry the team and let players in the game, and allow them to make runs to score as well.”

Looking ahead to the Canada encounter, Noel said his teammates are up for it. “In the camp, everyone wants to come out the group stage, so I think everyone will come out hard on Tuesday to win against Canada.”

MISS Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam has been in full support of her son Ailan Panton in Group D of the Concacaf Under-20 Championship qualifiers, being played at Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

Fitzwilliam has been seen in the crowd watching her son, who is the starting goal-keeper for the TT Under-20 football team in the tournament. He was in the line-up for TT in victories over St Vincent and the Grenadines (3-2) on Friday and against Dominica (5-0) on Sunday. Panton is a former national Under-17 goal-keeper.

Panton, based at Darlington Soccer Academy in the US, will have to be at his best to prevent Canada from scoring on Tuesday night in the final match of Group D. Canada have been prolific in front of goal, scoring 12 goals in two matches including an 8-0 win over Dominica and a 4-0 victory over St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Canada after 78 minutes ..3...0

The T&T commies are making so many hexcuses...lol

4 minutes to the 90 mins ..

Canada hit the post twice

Truth be told, Canada was the superior team, and restricted T&T to having just a single shot at their goalkeeper Gregoire Swiderski, coming through Crystal Palace midfielder Rio Cardines, who spent the night mostly defending, before finally getting a shot at goal, with Canada already up three goals.Canada solidified their advantage when substitute Kevaughn Tavernier got a third in the 79th minute, walking the ball into the net, following slack defending and a naive rush out of goal by goalie Panton. And but for Russel Francois’ goal-mouth clearance, Canada would have had a fourth in the dying minutes.

Most teams would be happy Canada was not in their group. They have a team of professional players playing all over Europe and North America. Yes they had little time to prepare as the players were unavailable for week long camps but quality players adapt quickly.

Just bad luck for T&T who would have probably won any other group.

Fans turned away from stadium at TT U20 vs Canada match

SCORES of football fans were frustrated on Tuesday night as they were turned away by officials at the entrance of the Hasely Crawford Stadium for the Concacaf Under-20 Championship qualifying match between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada.

This reporter arrived at the venue at half-time to see fans being told that nobody else would be permitted in the Mucurapo venue.

Patrons were told that because of a limited number of fire officers, they could not allow more fans to enter.

sigh

I consider 3-0 a good effort by TT, Canada scored half of what I thought they would, all in all a good result.I would be looking forward to the TT vs Canada in March, the winner will qualify for the COPA America,Jamaica came from behind to beat them and made the qualification,It's our turn now,we recently beat USA,I think we can beat Canada, our football shows quite a lot of improvement,we also have some players of very good quality.
