Edwin Allen High reclaimed the ISSA girls’ Championships title while Kingston College defended their boys’ title at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships on Saturday.

KC secured their 35th title, four in the last five years, with a whopping 335 points.

Jamaica College looked to challenge the North Street boys but only amassed 278 points after five days of competition.

Calabar High (194); Excelsior High (122); St Jago High (111.5); Wolmer’s Boys (66); St Elizabeth Technical (59) and St George’s College (53); Munro College (45) and Edwin Allen High (29) round out the top 10 boys’ school.

In the girls’ section, Edwin Allen amassed 335.5 points, unseating last year’s champion Hydel High for their 10th title.

Hydel fought to the very end, however, they only managed to rack up 326 points.

Rounding out the top 10 girls’ schools are St Jago High (171); Holmwood Technical (149); Wolmer’s Girls’ (128.5); Immaculate Conception (105); St Catherine High (67); Excelsior High (64); St Elizabeth Technical (51) and St Mary High (46.5).

Congrats to KC and Edwin Allen

Looks like hey have priced Jamaicans out of their own Champs - the 'éat a food posse' in all sports never learn.

Not that the "eat a food posse" isn't alive and well, however, I think a few things are contributing to a ho-hum Champs of the last few years:

1. After over 50 years of the 100m being on Friday evening, this was shifted to Wednesday evening and surely not enough was done to sensitize the sprint hungry Jamaican Champs crowd, or it was taken for granted that they would just show up on Wednesday and Friday evening with the change.

2. Too much non-track stuff going on during the actual track meet. For instance, what was the purpose of torch lighting during Champs? Puma (a main sponsor) hijacked the meet to showcase their Olympic gears. So not only are at venue track hungry crowd frustrated, but now even viewers are also questioning these acts. People go to Champs for track and field action, not to see administrators impose their self-interest on the fans.

3. The whole marketing of Champs is inadequate, seemingly, they are dependent on history to do the work for them. However, these are different times and folks have options for the dollar and time.

4. Some track and field lovers are just resorting to TV coverage rather than to go to Champs and have to deal with traffic issues after the event is concluded. Speaking of TV coverage, it is quite pathetic. No drama (via points tally, who has more finalist other permutations) just a bunch of TV commentators more interested in speaking than informing.

Endorsed. This champs, as well as the last few did not have the vibes of the recent past. Not sure if it’s the post Covid scheduling, or the lack of the calabar super class for KC to challenge, but the vibes were just not there. It was also apparent in the stands as they were not as packed as before. I skipped Friday. The meet is too stretched out from Wednesday to Saturday.

In regards to Puma, many of us in our section were wondering who those white folks in the we fasa Dan yuh shirts were. We got our answer!

Shifting the marquee event 100 finals was a big mistake. Who does that? Friday night was where the momentum shifts, and everyone becomes involved. They have to do the math and get it back.

Point was made about athletes suffering injury due to schedule, but where is the data? Was it actually broken??

As for the Puma entity.
This was just a onetime thing because of the pending summer Olympics so I won't hold Puma and ISSA to task.

Marketing strategy could surely improve, and I agree totally.
