T&T Express Journalist Michelle Loubon "Incredible India"

DURING a briefing exercise for a familiarisation programme at its Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain headquarters, Indian High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago Dr Pradeep Rajpurohit and Political and Commercial and Information Counsellor Raju Sharma promised journalists/editors of Latin American/Caribbean (LAC), an “incredible experience” in India...They certainly delivered.
The visit, which ran from February 17 to 24, was aimed at acquainting the media from this region with developments unfolding in India. My maiden visit to India was indeed an incredible experience that included visits to the Taj Mahal, the “world’s most famous monument of love,” at Agra, and a neighbouring marble shop.

India’s economic capital Delhi, a city of 22 million people, boasts monuments like India Gate and landmarks like Rashtrapati Bhavan (great house), the official residence of Indian President Droupadi Murmu. Most of India forms a peninsula, meaning it’s surrounded by water on three sides. The world’s highest mountain range, the Himalayas, rises in the north. The southeast is bordered by the Bay of Bengal, while the southwest is bordered by the Arabian Sea.Delhi was also host of the 71st Miss World 2024 pageant in which Aché Abrahams represented Trinidad and Tobago well enough to cop the Miss World Caribbean title.

Having arrived at Le Meridien, hotel staff welcomed us with cups of chai - a staple in India. Along with biscuits, the tea was served in delicate chinaware. When I told the two gentlemen, I was a journalist from Trinidad and Tobago they smiled and said “home of Brian Lara (legendary cricketer)”. It cemented our friendship. A Meridien hotel manager dubbed Delhi its political capital and Mumbai, India’s social capital. He even volunteered Modi would be re-elected for a third term since he had been phenomenal in bridging the gap between the desperately poor and super wealthy.
