Arvind Kejriwal has been remanded to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for six days until March 28, following his arrest in relation to the Delhi liquor policy scam. The ED has alleged that Kejriwal orchestrated the liquor scam and tracked the money trail to the Goa election campaign in 2022. According to ED, the chief minister demanded substantial bribes from liquor policy stakeholders, promising them undue benefits, and these funds were utilized during the Punjab and Goa elections. Senior advocate and Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, argued against routine remand, suggesting a review of the necessity of Kejriwal's custody. The Delhi BJP leaders on Saturday held a protest near Rajghat demanding the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal, currently in ED custody, and alleged the AAP is playing "victim card" to prove itself innocent. The demand came in the wake of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arresting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in an excise policy-linked money laundering case on Thursday night.
Democracy does not warrant dacoity: Yogi Adityanath on Kejriwal's arrest
Commenting on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that adherence to the law is paramount for everyone, regardless of their position or influence. Speaking in a discussion with a private TV channel on Saturday, Adityanath remarked, "In our nation, democracy prevails, allowing individuals like Arvind Kejriwal to repeatedly hold the position of Chief Minister in Delhi. However, democracy does not allow any person, party or organisation to commit 'dacoity'."
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla says, "High Court has denied Arvind Kejriwal's plea regarding the urgent listing of the case and to hear it so, this is a tight slap to the lie and propaganda of AAP and Arvind Kejriwal. When courts aren't granting you bail and other relaxation then those who claim that democracy is in danger are blaming the courts. Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned 10 times, if he hadn't done anything wrong, he should have co-operated and followed the law, but if you won't, action will be taken against you."
While addressing the public meeting in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav said, "The one who said in Delhi that I would fight against corruption, work for the poor, would send dishonest people to jail, his ministers went to jail. Now he (Arvind Kejriwal) also went to jail but is not ready to leave his post. Congress is also supporting him. Yesterday Anna Hazare also said 'Unfortunately, I have to say that my disciple is doing such work”
