Absolutely amazing.. I gotta wonder who are these people who come up with these
things .
The single greatest allround feat by a West Indies Test player who made a double ton,219 and took
a 5-for in the same Test is not here. Denis Atkinson.
Frank Worrell was an allrounder who opened the batting and bowling in the same Test too .
Bernard Julien deserves his props too and he had a couple Test tons
somethings that some on that list aint got and will never get.

This exercise is right up there with Many Jamaicans naming Edward Seaga as a Father of that Nation.
There ought to be a law to prevent some things being proffered.
I been on this MB too long.sad
Who is an allrounder ?

No way Scammy and Harper in front of Atkinson, Boyce, Holford, Worrell.

Scammy name cannot be in the same paragraph as the visionary Sir Frank Worrell.

All time Windwards X1 are regularly selected on this mb. Scammy never makes the final cut. How can he be a top 10 WI allrounder?

Scammy is a hard man fi dead.

A sound batsman and a bowler of medium-pace offcutters, Denis Atkinson made his debut in India in 1948-49, and was a Test regular in the mid-1950s. He was captain for three Tests against Australia in 1954-55, in the absence of Jeff Stollmeyer, and later led West Indies to a series victory in New Zealand. His finest hour, though, came in the fourth Test of that Australian series. Facing a total of 668, West Indies collapsed and were 146 for 6 when Atkinson and Clairmonte Depeiaza came together. In more than a day the pair added 347 for the seventh wicket, a first-class record for 40 years and still the best in Tests. Atkinson contributed 219, his career-highest, and also took seven wickets in the match. On his sole tour of England in 1957 he began memorably, taking 10 for 62 in the first match at Worcester, but later he was overworked and a strained shoulder affected his performance.

I’m surprised you name Denis Atkinson as one of the top 10 all rounders from the WI, seemingly based on that one match where he had the best returns by any WI player.

His performance in that match was indeed commendable. But top 10 all rounders in the region?

He batted 35 times for WI and scored 922 runs averaging 31.74 and took 47 wickets in that time.

He averaged 20 with the bat in his other 34 innings.

Similarly, calling Sir Frank Worrell an all rounder seemingly because he also bowled a bit is a bit of a stretch.

In that case, Viv Richards, Larry Gomes, Clive Lloyd (who once opened the bowling for WI) hell……even Kraigg Brathwaite…..would then be considered all rounders.

Maybe the literal definition, but not the essence of the term.

Certainly not when you’re also classifying the likes of Gary Sobers, Bernard Julien, Learie Constantine etc as all rounders.

You should take a timeout or focus solely on 20 overs cricket.
For fans like hubert and I, who have been watching cricket for six decades know about these players.
Denis Atkinson was one of Barbados' great medium pacers, anyone that have seen him will tell you that, that is a man who could bowl all day and hit a dime, over ninety percent of the time.
He bowled like the ball was tied to a cord.

B Julien and K Boyce should be on there. I would think they would be top selections in any short format form of the game now.

Bro, Dukes asked me why I don't include Seymour Nurse when I speak of West Indies batsman, my response is always, that he did not play enough test cricket to be recognized, but as you like reviewing stats after hearing the players name, check Seymour Macdonald Nurse stats, and compare it to the generation including any batsman between 2000-2024.
I would never rate Denis Atkinson I do not need to, as I listen to the guys who gave us their choice, including Clyde Walcott, Hooper, Sammy and others, the two dudes had to be drunk.
