Room has to be made for Seymour Nurse.

Martindale and Herman Griffith cannot make an all time Bim 12. Seymour Nurse is an immortal anyone who out batted Babulal against the invincible Aussies earns his place. Seymour double v OZ earned him a name drop in Sparrow's iconic 'Greatest Cricketer on Earth or Mars.' Old timers swear they rather watch Seymour bat than Smoking Joe or the Prince.

Brerzerk 2024-03-26 14:53:11

I think Nurse's last test innings was a double vs NZ. Yagga's last series in NZ included a ton and a fifty. Next time JA played Guyana he asked Lloyd 'Whap'n suh man like me cyan make WI team again?'
Lloyd-'Yagga everbody know you can bat all you've got to do is make some runs' So, Yagga went out and made a FC ton but was never picked again.

Kay 2024-03-26 14:56:47

New South Wales and Barbados have had two of the strongest first-class teams in the world.

Brerzerk 2024-03-26 15:01:54

To digress again, just like Nurse resigned young enough to continue and also in splendid form I think Butcher's last innings in England may have been a ton too.
If I remember correctly, he went straight to The US from that England tour

Did Keith move from Empire to Maple?
I have never seen Conrad playing a local match, his sister Juanita was my Class 3 teacher, someone that was at St.Matthews for decades.
Many summers we would have a day at Prospect Beach
I have seen Sir Gary playing in one 1st division game for the police, the week before the match, it was rumoured that he would play, Police needed first-inning points to win the championship, Empire was in second place.
My blood pressure was so high after hearing Gary was playing, that I walked from Pinfold Street to Kensington, wanted the game to rain out, how dare he want to stop my Blues from winning the championship?
Every police must have been off duty because every ground person I saw was from the police, they brought every piece of equipment to have the surface ready,
Gary ran through Pickwick then Tony White bowled Sobers for a duck, I was so happy.
Police won the championship that year.
I got a ball signed by Sir Gary.

Keith played cricket for Empire after leaving school for 2 years , he and his mentor Sir E won the cup on the last day of the cricket season, the next year he then went to Maple to join his school friends at Maple.,
He played football for Empire his first 2 years, then went to Maple for a year, returning to Empire as a goalkeeper and kept goal keep for Bim.

Hunte played for Empire for many years along with Clairmonte Depeiza, Lionel Williams, Francis Scott and Charlie Perkins.

In reply to tc1

With your added names from that era test teams would struggle v Empire. Clairmonte Depeiza put mighty Australia to the sword.

Was Tony King a 'Blues'?

tc1 2024-03-27 22:05:26

In reply to Castled

Tony played for the blues and Kolij, in fact he top scored for Bim as a 16y.o or 17 y.o in a team that had Sobers, Weekes , Hunte , Nurse and Lashley on 2 occasions.

There is so much negativity in your life, this post is about IAN CHAPPELL | APRIL 29, 2020, Bradman v Sobers, Marshall v Lindwall
New South Wales and Barbados have had two of the strongest first-class teams in the world. What would their all-time XIs look like?
As a fan of Barbados cricket, I am not going to let you or anyone at any time steal our thunder.

exactly the reason why no bajan batsman since dessie has finished with an avg over 40

So tell us how many T&T batsmen in the history of test cricket finish with a 40 average?
The BCA will get it right, the history is there.
Our population is small, and we need every young Barbadian playing cricket and wishing to be a Pride.
We need whites, blacks, browns and yellows representing Barbados.
Brian Lara 52.9
Larry Gomes 39.63
Gus Logie 35.8

discussion is not about TT homes. trinidad, especially in red ball cricket never boasts abut being the best. in t20 cricket, we were the best domestic team for about three years: 2011, 2012 and 2013....but we have never been the best in red ball cricket.

if larry and gus wasn't around....WI's reign at the top would have lasted much less than 15 years patna. in fact....since greenidge and haynes, no bajan batsman has averaged higher than loagie or gomes

You are the person who is going after Barbados cricket.
You came on this post and threw a stone,

exactly the reason why no bajan batsman since dessie has finished with an avg over 40

Now you are scrambling to find a T&T batsman other than BCL.
I am not a fan of T20 club cricket, but I am pleased to know the players are making a living from it.

I am struggling? big grinbig grinbig grinbig grin
you mentioned larr gomes, larry gomes who scored 6 centuries against australian attacks, one at perth without a helmet or cap and was Widen's cricketer of the year in 1984, statistically the best year ever in the history of WI cricket. I want to see kraigg or shai take on starc, cummins and co without a helmet at perth or the mcg. kraigg will be dismissed, but he'll leave with his faculties in tact. shai would probably be seriously maimed or worse

You do know Helmets are now part of the uniform?
Stay on topic, it is what you write, that I am responding to.
I am not a T20 league fan, so I will do anything about players alone.
I do have opinions on West Indies players, playing in International white-ball formats.
Kraigg and Shai's career is still ongoing, it is up to them to make adjustments.

You gave me a wide-open lane, apart from BCL, I am not seeing any tit with an average over 40, please at lease name a few.

Interesting memories why don't you list Windies stand outs who left the game too soon. Yagga, Butcher, Nurse for sure who were the others?

We weren’t talking about any tits. You mentioned Larry Gomes. To which I mentioned that Larry Gomes was wisden’s cricketer of the year in 1985 for the 1984 season, the best year statistically in the history of West Indies cricket, a season where he averaged over 70. In fact I’d go as far as saying Larry was better than every bajan batsman after dessie

I don't know about slow but Holder bowled very well in that match....that was test standard bowling , accurate inswingers coupled with outswingers

Trinidad didn't have no experience batters capable of withstanding the tide that's all.
