Shocked but not surprised

This is the system that Michael Manley was fighting to change…

Those kinds of incidents still happen all over the Caribbean, many Caribbean establishments and people still have the colonial ways of discrimination. Colorism is still alive.

Was staying in an hotel in Barbados a few years ago.
Went to the dining room for breakfast early - had a cricket pickup so I wanted to be ready.
Dining room wasn’t quite open so I quietly sat at a table. Others did the same - all after me.
This was clear as day as the staff organized themselves. Then they started taking orders and went to a white couple first. I called her and asked her who she saw first in the restaurant. When I was finished with her she served me first, trust me. She was vex like hell but I let her have it. Don’t try dat crap, with me. Then I wrote a scathing report about racism and service.
Never stayed there again.

Well done, I had a similar incident in St. Lucia some years ago, the lady in the Hotel even changed her accent when addressing the white client than when she speaking to me

In St Lucia, some foreign people bought a hotel and put a sign saying, private beach No Trespassing, so the people storm the beach protesting.
The foreigers had to run back to where they came from, this is not the US, this is the Caribbean and we don’t play that shit

It is allowed to happen only because our governments doh care and our people will protest only if a fete is banned or restricted.

I am really afraid our people are normalizing this type of discrimination.

Unfortunately, Jamaicans have not stand up enough and I applaud our brothers and sisters in St. Lucia for standing up. So, in Jamaica, there are hardly any public beaches, for many all-inclusive hotels resorts occupy and privatize most beaches, unlike in Barbados where all beaches are owned by Barbadians.

in Guyana they are selling out prime recreational fields by the seawall to hotel investors

it's all about the 1%

they don't care about people and social development...only the bottomline of friends and family

I don't see what the issue is. High-end hotels and restaurants don't want scummy locals in their establishments, lowering the tone and annoying well-heeled guests. Can you blame them?

That's a common thing throughout the Caribbean, and it's sickening.
