Finally selected, Joseph makes his IPL debut today at Eden Gardens vs Kolkata Knight Riders.

I do not usually follow the tournament as I much prefer red ball cricket but this young man is worth tuning in for.

Score update:

KKR won the toss and chose to field. Lucknow Super Giants currently 69/2 (9.2 overs) with captain KL Rahul 31*

Shamar Joseph to Narine, FOUR, Sunil Narine showing who's boss here in the IPL. Leans back, fetches the short of length delivery from outside off and slaps it away through covers with disdain....

Well, it was an action packed first over from Shamar...high pace, batsmen beaten...150ks and dropped off a no ball, then no balls, wides...and went for 20...

All the stupid, don't know anything about cricket Guyanese will learn. Shamar is young, humble and dedicated and he will learn. Take the pressure off him and let him grow and develop. The IPL is not a place for bowlers.

Absolutely. The IPL is just kiddie cricket in pyjamas with millions of $$$ and all kinds of outside interest interfering with what is going on out on the field. I do not watch it usually, as I said earlier. I know many love it for the glitz and smash bang cricket but it is so far from real cricket.

The IPL will never define a player like Shamar Joseph, he will lead the West Indies test attack for years.

All part of the steep learning curve

8 off te first 5 then a struggle to finish the 6th which cost 14...

Keep your head up high Shamar...

I do not care, personally...I want him to become a legend West Indian TEST cricketer...he certainly displays the skills to do so...

For this kiddie whack-it game, he has had three catches dropped off his bowling in his first three overs...one parried over the rope for a six

can be a cruel game

6.5
Shamar Joseph to Philip Salt, SIX, dropped and tipped over for six! 140kph length ball on middle and leg, Salt plays a pick-up shot and seems to have struck it nicely. But it goes straight to the fielder at deep square leg who is on the edge of the boundary. Being close to the rope must've been on the back of his mind, he looks to take it with the reverse-cup but ends up palming it over the boundary
6.4
Shamar Joseph to Shreyas Iyer, 1 run, 151.3kph short ball into the body, rushes onto Iyer's attempted pull and he's in no control at all. It loops in the air and falls short of fine leg

One thing I can say about him…. He’s a wicket taker. Something’s ALWAYS happening when he’s bowling…. And that 151.3 pace ain’t no joke bhai

Will Sammy take a chance on him with the pace? And is he a better pick over Oshane?

It's a good problem to have rather than no pace option

Of course we are all rooting for our bredren Shamar.
Last year in the regionals, I noted his line was tending down leg, and I thought if that could be addressed, he would be in a great spot.

In the OZ series, his line was much improved, and he had the great results we saw.

Today I saw some of the legside line again, which I trust will be fixed for the upcoming test series.

A handsome IPL payday is nothing to turn one's nose up to. So, all good, journey looks promising.

They set the tone for defeat by scoring 160... That's a below average score in the IPL.

It was the dude first IPL match... I'm sure he was nervous. He bowled some top deliveries and had about 3 dropped catches go against him. He can only improve from here.

Shamar is all rhythm and momentum once thats up he's up and away. A first wicket in his next opening spell and many more will come tumbling in.
