GCB challenges CWI’s appointment of Bassarath
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has carried out its threat to take legal action against Cricket West Indies (CWI) over the election of Azim Bassarath as its vice-president. This was confirmed by a press release.
Bassarath, president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), was elected to the post at CWI’s March, 2023 annual general meeting (AGM).
The GCB had nominated Bassarath but subsequently withdrew its nomination in writing before the elections were held, but after the nomination period had closed.
The GCB said the decision to withdraw its nomination of Bassarath was taken upon the Guyana Board, “receiving certain information, just prior to the CWI elections, that included serious allegations of misconduct at the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB).”
