it's clearly looks like a list of all the guys vying for the final 2 slots

The deadline for submission of the West Indies World Cup squad is May 1, 2024. Prior to the World Cup, the West Indies team will host South Africa for a 3-match T20 series from May 22 - 26, 2024.

with the first game on April 27, who get's enough of a chance to get into the 15 by May 1?

FULL ARTICLE HERE

While I’m thankful for any practice for the team and its potential reserves, why are we touring Nepal instead of the other way around?

To the best of my knowledge, the World Cup is being played in the region (and the US). However, none of the WI matches are scheduled for the US

Would it not be better practice for us AND Nepal to have the matches here in the region in conditions and pitches where the World Cup is taking place?

One would think that Nepal would definitely want to practice in “local” World Cup environment.

Or is it a case of any practice for our team is better than no practice at all, regardless of venue?

And who foots the bill for this tour? I’m thinking it would have to be Nepal cricket association (or equivalent) as CWI always claims to have no $$

Or maybe all venues in the region are already booked for other teams pre tournament preparation?

I agree with the playing here.
But the fact is the host country foots the bill for tours. So they paying for that. Whether WI cricket claiming to be brokes or not.

I can only assume venues are still being prepared but I had the same questions when I heard of this.

Yeh, Walsh is well liked by the Selectors, even in 4-days cricket he is expensive. Fletcher seems to be well liked also, a younger player could have been given a chance against a Nepal team.

Obviously team management hasn’t given up on the IDEA of having a leg spinner in the squad.

Quality Leg spinners are proven assets in T20 cricket.

Walsh Jr has yet to prove that he is a quality leg spinner. But he also brings excellent fielding to the table so I get the attraction.

Besides….there really is no other option in that department.

Most intriguing selection for me is that of Fabian Allen. With Hosein and Motie already in pole position for the spin option in the squad, it’s not like we need another orthodox left arm spinner.

But if Fabian Allen can be anything close to what he was at his best, he is a serious asset to have with bat, ball, and in the field.

He however is a real long shot at this point to make the final World Cup squad, but it’s good to see him back in WI colours, no matter the level.

If you’re saying Fletcher is well liked, so too is Johnson Charles.

I have no issue with either.

Is South Africa not coming to the region for matches before the WC?

Fabian has been badly out of form. I think they see this as an opportunity to remind him he is still in the frame. It is a good thing

We don't even produce leggies anymore. I remember in the 90s at Regional U19 each team had at least 1 leggie, Guyana had 3 sometimes...

it will be interesting to see if say someone did excellent in the 1 or 2 games between the first and the team selection on May 1 and they went that way...to me that would be risky to do especially if there are proven incumbents...but again this makes the tour a bit weird...though it does provide opps to brings guys back into the fold and give some needed game time to wc potential picks

It is a blatant useless pick and a fucking waste of a space that should have been given to someone else, there are a couple others.
