My preferred area of discussion, the quicks
But for this tour party...not an easy selection. Holder & Roach will undoubtedly be in the conversation and as many would agree, it would not be a surprise to see their names in the team / squad, even though others may have more merit at this time. Roach was decent in Australia and is an on field mentor for Shamar and the other younger guys. Approaching 36, he is still fit enough.
Speaking of fitness, Jayden Seales is fit again and bowling well in England, taking county championship wickets and seemingly doing just about everything to stake his claim. I am taking him for sure. The slightly fuller length he bowls will be beneficial, patently.
Shamar Joseph is probably the first name on the team sheet. Not even up for discussion, the boy is special.
PLEASE look after him (workload, financially...)
For me, it is a yes too for namesake Alzarri Joseph. Although, it is clear that he has played too much cricket in recent times. When rested, he bowls consistently quicker and is a genuine threat. I liked his stint as regional captain, he was positive. The move to be vice-captain of the West Indies test team is something I personally found to be a good step forward. The balance of rest and play needs adjustment, for Alzarri Joseph to be productive when it really matters.
Others that could be in the discussion are Phillip, Louis, Springer, John, Thorne & Tyson. Personally, I really liked the look of Isai Thorne and Gillon Tyson, who as a relative unknown, could be a surprise selection. The first few on this list are steady but I am not convinced that they have what it takes to be consistently troubling the batsmen at international level. The A team will surely have several of these names present when announced.
Kyle Mayers and Justin Greaves, as all-rounders, may well be in the chat too.
With the first test at Lords not due to start until the middle of July, the wickets will be a bit harder, skies less grey and temperature a bit warmer. These are all important factors that should assist the tour party. No thick wooly jumpers! It was no coincidence when England had the Windies over in April & May for past tours. They knew it would be uncomfortable for the tourists. This summer, I want the West Indies to bring the heat. England batsmen face seam, swing, medium plus all day every day. Bring back the pace like fire, chin music, sniff the leather, attack them in their own yard with a pace barrage and focus on slip catching like never before.
Shamar Joseph
Kemar Roach
Alzarri Joseph
Jayden Seales
Gillon Tyson / Isai Thorne
