If he can make the step up to the next level we might have a player there..

There is something about Athanaze…
In reply to FanAttick
Like others before him
..the longer he stays on the WI bench, there will always be something about him.
For our fan base
our best players are often those that dont play
There was something about Julian
Then there was something about Xavier Marshall
And Deo ( the poster child for this)

He looks a cut above everyone Ive seen this season - including those on the test team!
Athanaze goes for a well played 97..tough luck
Wi batsmen dont think he had two hundreds for the taking in tbis match and give way his hand with some unecessary loose shots
In reply to velo
He was caught in two minds ..wouldnt say he played a reckless stroke..
I didnt see his 1st inning dismissal
He has class though

You know, you are very perceptive. That "there's something about Julian" just crossed my mind. I'll leave it alone for now but it's really interesting the very first phone conversation I had with Hunte and the reason I said what I said.
Anyways, I'm too busy being happy for you to spoil it. Weeeeeee!

See my reply above
Commentators were waxing lyrical about Athanaze
..Good to see others saw what I saw
Ill go out on a limb and say that hes potentially the best looking left handed WI batter since Lara and Gayle
.with a better allround technique than Gayle
.looks equally at ease against spin and pace
.scores at a rapid clip without looking like hes forcing it
I would love to see him in the test team vs India
.
It also shows the ineptitude of the selectors who picked him to replace Bonner in the Saffie leg of the recent tour of Zim and RSA and had him warming the bench
I would not have dropped Bonner in the way that he was but once selected Athanaze should have played..
In reply to FanAttick
Agree
In reply to FanAttick
Is that west indian pace.....because we don't have many bowlers who regularly bowl at express pace
In reply to Jumpstart
I havent seen him vs express pace but I think he has the technique to give a good account of himself
.
One thing that I noticed was that he takes a leg stump guard but gets in line quite well
so by the time the bowler delivers he his well across to cover the line of the ball
In reply to FanAttick
Would you use him in place of Weed?
In reply to camos
Yeah or alternatively he could bat @4 and Blackwood drops back to his customary #5. Mayers @6, Holder @ 7, Da Silva @8
Longer term though Athanaze looks a shoo in for that #3 position
The only reason Im hedging on him batting @3 vs India is that I wouldnt want to put too much pressure on him so early..give him a couple tests at #4 to get his feet wet then Im sure hell be ready for the step up
In reply to FanAttick
VOR wanted Alick 5 years now
In reply to FanAttick
I wouldn't be as timid as you - I say throw him at #3, swim or sink!
In reply to doosra
Look at the names that Athanaze beat:
Shubman Gill
Prithvi Shaw
Harry Brook
