HEADLINE: Haynes explains Hetmyer, Lewis, Allen absences

LEAD SELECTOR Desmond Haynes said the talent pool in the Caribbean was small, and no player could be ruled out of selection for the West Indies men’s international team.

This was the common theme that ran through responses from Haynes during a virtual news conference on Monday that dealt with the glaring non-selection and the absence of a handful of high-profile players, including Shimron Hetmyer, Evin Lewis, and Fabian Allen.

None of the three featured in the men’s team for a series of three One-day Internationals in the United Arab Emirates and the subsequent qualification tournament in Zimbabwe for the 2023 ICC One-Day International Cricket World Cup in India.

“I must say, though, that I just want the public to know that nobody has been ruled out of selection for West Indies,” he said. “We do not have the depth of players to rule out anybody for selection. We really cannot afford to side-line anyone.

So why are they not in the team, especially since we are badly under-manned. Other teams make allowances for their International players.

Other teams make allowances for their International players.
Do you mean players like Pooran, Holder, Mayers Hosein, and Josephs?

To be fair, Allen and Lewis have played little to no cricket to note for some time.

Lewis was playing club cricket while the Regional fc was going on.

Desmond Haynes said a lot but said nothing that makes sense. As a hurting West Indian I wish the World Cup qualifying team would win enough games to get qualified but at the same time I wouldn’t be too disappointed if they would not get qualified so that Desmond Haynes would lift the trophy of being the first West Indies chief selector to fail to win a spot in two back to back World Cup T20 and now ODI

Not a great story. The headline calls the three players by name, but doesn't mention them once in the body of the story itself.

I'm left no wiser than before I read the story.

In reply to SlipfeelerThey are not in the team because they abandoned the West Indies to go entertain people elsewhere and make "big bucks". All they care about is money....nothing else. Cricketers from other countries can balance things where they make money by playing franchise cricket but also represent their countries. Not so with these West Indians. They feel if they lose one penny in franchise cricket their whole world will come to an end. These guys are just greedy, shameless mercenaries. Where I come from, they have a saying: "Never see come see". Just figure it out.

Exactly, this is the greatest non explanation I've ever seen. I'm sure English is their second language.
