IN what may well have been an unprecedented move, the Jamaica Scorpions squad, which fell by the wayside at the ongoing Cricket West Indies (CWI) Super50 Cup, was not chosen by selectors formally appointed by the board of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA).

Chief executive officer of the JCA, Courtney Francis, told the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday that the squad was selected by Head Coach Andre Richardson, Assistant Coach Nikita Miller and Captain Rovman Powell.

That trio also chose the much larger squad which played a series of trial matches in August and September.

That's because contracts for the Junior Bennett-led selection panel came to an end in June and were not immediately renewed, Francis said.

Bennett's panel included former Jamaica opener Delroy Morgan and respected Coach Burtram Barnes.

As explained by Francis, the unusual situation came about after CWI moved to change its annual contractual cycle for contracted players across the region from July 1-June 30, to October 1-September 30.

"This was in order to bring contracts in line with the CWI budget year," Francis explained.

Nothing, absolutely nothing short of disgraceful!
On another note, this shows that coach, assistant and cappo cannot properly assess players' potential nor ability. Much worse it shows the
possibility of them not giving full support to squad members picked by selectors if we note that they picked failures that selectors might not have picked.

really sad if coach and captain cannot separate the sheep from the goats. The lambs were led to the slaughter this year and on Youtube a JA analysist is picking Bonner and Powell among the best of the players.

Poor excuse , yardies got embarrassed and now blaming 3 selectors for the failures.

Wouldn't it have been the same situation for the other territories as well?

Of late it seems like Jamaica is having a challenge with timing, they screwed-up with making a decision on how to vote at the United Nations on World events, now their Selectors did not select their cricket team because of expired contracts. Well, that explains why many of the selections in the team made no sense looking to the future. Their team was the oldest in the tournament, it looked like the coach and captain selected the players they were accustom being around.

I can't imagine why a Raewin Senior is yet to make his senior debut while the selectors continued to opt for a geriatric squad of retreads and perennial failures.

looking through the prism of how Yard cricket impacts WI cricket whether positively or negatively.
The vast majority of Jamaicans doan give a shoite 'bout JA cricket and with the shittiness of the franchise its even worse.

You are a guy that post reasonable comments, do you think the response was to blame the guys that selected the team while continuing to have them in management.
