BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa (CMC) – West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell will campaign in the South African Ram Slam Twenty20 League for a second straight year after signing for VKB Knights ahead Sunday’s start of the new campaign.
Russell, currently on tour with the West Indies limited overs side in Sri Lanka, is set to link up with the Knights from November 15.
Last season, the 27-year-old was one of the leading players for the Knights, scoring 182 runs at an average of 30 and a strike-rate of 200, to fire them into the final of the championship where they eventually lost to Cobras.
West Indies coach Phil Simmons will continue in his post as head coach after his meeting with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Human Resources committee over a public outburst, ended with just a slap on the wrist, well placed sources within the WICB told Guardian Media. Simmons was suspended by the WICB after he alleged that there was ‘outside’ influence in the non-selection of T&T players Dwayne Bravo and Keiron Pollard. He was replaced by selector Eldine Baptiste as coach for the current series in Sri Lanka. Simmons met with the Committee and CEO of the WICB, Michael Muirhead last Wednesday and he was warned about his outburst and told that comments like those would not be tolerated in the future.
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Deandra Dottin took centre stage for the first time on the tour as West Indies barely broke a sweat in disposing of Pakistan Women by eight wickets in the opening Twenty20 International of the three-match series here Thursday.
Opting to bowl first at the National Stadium, West Indies Women restricted the visitors to 74 for nine, with seamer Dottin taking two for ten from her two overs.
She then returned to stroke a fluent unbeaten 38 as the hosts cruised to their target with 22-balls remaining, to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
West Indies Women were slumping at 24 for two in the sixth over after losing openers Hayley Matthews (9) and Stafanie Taylor (8) cheaply but Dottin partnered with former skipper Merissa Aguilleira, 15 not out, in an unbroken 54-run third wicket stand, to pull the innings around.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) --West Indies captain Jason Holder has moved up three places to a career-best 49th in the latest ICC Test Player Rankings released yesterday.
Holder's marginal climb was a result of two wickets he took in the West Indies losing effort against Sri Lanka in the final Test which ended on Sunday.
His West Indian teammate, pacer Jerome Taylor, also moved up three places to 21 after bagging four wickets in the two Test matches against Sri Lanka.
