The inaugural edition of the ICC women's championship, which has been devised to provide context to women's bilateral series, is set to begin this August. The ICC outlined the structure of the multi-year competition which will also serve as a preliminary qualifying stage for the next women's World Cup 2017 to be held in England.
During the women's championship, the top eight sides will face each other in three ODIs either at home or away and will accumulate points for every result. The four teams at the top of the table when the competition ends in 2016 will get direct entry to the 2017 World Cup, while the bottom four will get a second chance to make the World Cup through a qualifier system.

ROSEAU, Dominica – Captain Darren Sammy is determined to ensure West Indies take something away from their series against New Zealand, by winning the Twenty20 double-header starting at Windsor Park here Saturday.
West Indies went under 2-1 in the Test series after losing the decisive third Test by 53 runs last Monday and Sammy said it was now up to the T20 squad to restore a sense of pride, and give Caribbean fans a reason to celebrate.
“Obviously we didn’t win the win the Test series so it’s disappointing but it’s Twenty20s here in Dominica, the first of two Twenty20 Internationals for Dominica and I know they will come out and support the West Indies team like they have before,” said Sammy, who was axed as Test captain prior to the tour.

West Indies offspinner Sunil Narine believes the caution a batsman takes against his variations allows him the freedom to get set into a spell, Narine told ESPNcricinfo in a recent interview.
"I only have three [different] balls." he said. "Just to keep the batsmen thinking. Once you have the batsmen thinking they tend to look at you a little more and in the extra time they look at me, my overs tend to finish."
Narine had to sit out during the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand as he couldn't make the training camp on time due to the IPL, but his return would help the hosts offer a sterner challenge to New Zealand in during the two Twenty20s. Narine has 12 wickets from five matches against the visitors.

Bridgetown, Barbados - Curtly Ambrose’s “I talk to no man” – not rude, just matter of fact – response to requests for interviews is legend. Now past 50, the Antiguan giant has mellowed. He talks. Not much, of course, and not often, but still.
Ambrose was recently appointed bowling consultant to the West Indies team, and hopes to play a part in taking the team back to its one-time glory. And Ambrose – easily one of the greatest pace bowlers of all time – wants to do it by instilling pride in the players, by telling them what cricket means to the people of the Caribbean.

Unsuprisingly, Denesh Ramdin points the finger at the batsmen following the loss of the third test match and the series to the visiting New Zealand side:
"In the first innings, all our top six-seven batters got starts and nobody went on to make that big 100. It is all in the mindset, the way we apply ourselves. If we are content with 50 or 60, we need to be bigger men and come out and fight and show what we are made of. We need to carry on from those 50s and 60s and only be satisfied with big 100s — 160, 150 — to put the team in a commanding position."
"Test cricket is a lot of hard work and if you go out there and work hard you get the rewards for it. Hopefully this can be a stepping stone for some of the guys who did well. All the guys who didn't, it should be a wake-up call for them to do well in the future."
