TTCB to host regional Super50

The T&T Cricket Board will host the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Super-50 cricket tournament in this country in January next year.

T&T Guardian understands that the tournament which was played alongside the Regional First Class series last year, will now be clumped separately as played as a ‘Super Series’ in T&T. A source close to the situation said the West Indies Cricket Board decided to play the series separately because of the fact that they no longer host the regional T20 tournament.

“There was a window for the board to fill in January because the Regional T20 which is now hosted by Virus International takes place in mid-year,” said the source.

Santokie seeking to regain Windies place

Left-arm pacer Krishmar Santokie is hoping that his performances for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the just-concluded Limacol Caribbean Premier League (CPL) will help him to gain a berth in the West Indies senior team.

Santokie, who was named Player of the Tournament after taking 16 wickets to end as the leading wicket taker, made the disclosure at the weekend shortly following his team's seven-wicket loss to Jamaica Tallawahs in the final at Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad and Tobago.

"It's a very memorable and prestigious moment for me to be named Player of the Tournament," said Santokie.

"I have been trying to get the award ever since the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament started a few years aback, and, in my eyes, it has been very close.

Saqlain Mushtaq to work with West Indian spinners at three week camp

Saqlain Mushtaq, the Pakistani off-spinner, is generally credited with the discovery of the much acclaimed "Doosra" delivery and some of the most memorable moments of Pakistani cricket. His outstanding record for Pakistan is a matter of pride for his countrymen. His international career spanned 49 Test matches and 169 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), in which he picked up 208 and 288 wickets respectively, finishing with a Test average of 29.83 and an ODI average just under 22. With these incredible figures in a career hampered and later cut short by injuries, he also has the distinct honour of being the fastest Pakistani bowler to reach 100 Test wickets as well as 100, 150, 200 and 250 ODI wickets.

With experience of that calibre to back his proven coaching skills, it is no surprise that Saqlain is in great demand throughout the world. Speaking to PakPassion.net, Saqlain confirmed that he is now set to provide his insights into the art of spin bowling in a training camp for West Indies players in Barbados.

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The Selection Panel of the West Indies Cricket Board announced on Monday 15-member West Indies A-Team squads for a one-month tour of India from September 13.

The people's festival

The last fireworks have exploded in the Caribbean Premier League. The smoke has cleared but things on the ground may never be the same again. That would be a good thing.

When Albie Morkel delivered the first ball back on July 30 at Kensington Oval, no one was quite sure how things would turn out for this franchise-based professional venture, a first for West Indies cricket. Three and a half weeks later, there is no doubt about how the CPL has done.

In bars, offices, and, most tellingly, at the stadiums, the CPL has been the flavour of the month, a cricketing phenomenon from which a number of things have been learned.
