Beaton reported for flinging

anthonyp 2023-03-29 01:27:15

Will miss the final round... Reported by the umpires in the last round.

On-field umpires Shannon Crawford and Nigel Duguid and fourth umpire Ryan Banwarie reported that Beaton’s elbow extension appeared not to fall within the 15-degree tolerance range during the Scorpions second innings.

I noticed when he was hit for a couple 4s by Mohammed hw looked a bit upset and sent one down to Mohammed which hit Mohammed on the gloves in an attempt to avoid getting hit in the face, slow replay showed it was a blatant pelt.He continued to send down some suspicious ones when TT was just putting up a lil fight. It's time that cricket officials start taking notice of our young players to sort any problems from young,we are a cricket playing nation for over 100 years, time to be serious.

Jamaica should get the points from the Muddie game

This is beyond ridiculous..even the blind could see that Beaton was pelting…this was especially pronounced when he threw the short pitched balls….

Every batter who fell victim to his pelting should file a complaint

You protesteth too much.Never heard this when your people were hounded out of the game.Selective outrage is cynical and disingenuous.

The reality is that I commented at the beginning of the year about Beaton's action not being clean. but people did not care until he played against their team.

not true Dukes. i watched Beaton when he was played his first match and he was not pelting (at least when i watched). the last match he did tho; his action looked v ragged especially the quicker ball. maybe with the amount of work he was doing he returned to previous action. muscle memory under stress perhaps?

Beaton was pelting from the beginning of this tournament and I said so.

On a WhatsApp chat room with many former first class cricketers it was a topic of conversation and most of them felt the same way.

so why was he reported in this particular match?

Narper 2023-03-29 12:18:40

Regional selectors should be fined for selecting pelters.

Sarwan should know better.

It was clear he was pelting

The whispering campaign got loud enough that it could no longer be ignored.

Better late than never.

Lemme say this. Sunil Narine has an action that I consider outside the laws of the game.
Many top officials in the game in the Caribbean agree with me but they are unwilling to do anything about it and feel that if he is good enough to play franchise cricket around the world, then he is good enough to play franchise cricket at home.Narine is smart enough to know it is too big a risk to attempt to play non-franchise cricket that is controlled by the ICC.
The whole situation is farcical.

On second thought, my answer above was incomplete.
Many people are only willing to throw somebody out of the game if they are successful. In other words if Beaton was getting 0-80 then he probably would still be playing. That is WRONG but TRUE.
I recently re-read my interview with the recently deceased Umpire Cecil Kippins and he referenced a South African fast bowler who was called shortly after he took a hat-trick at Lords.

Was it the great Dayle Steyn with the SOMETIMES mysterious ‘wrist’ action?

In reply to mikelegend

wrist action different tho...a bent elbow is not the same

Walsh had a whippy wrist and perhaps the best of it now is Shaheen Shah Afridi

from Christmas eve 2017

I’ve been chastised from the beginning of time on this MB, for relaying my observations of the similarity of Beaton and the great Dale Steyn. To me they appear IDENTICAL when SOMETIMES chucking the short deliveries and SOMETIMES when striving for extra pace. I was told by the “experts” back then, that for STEYN it was simply all the wrist. Steyn was subsequently tested if I recall correctly. He was cleared, because to me he simply didn’t go for extra pace during testing. Let’s see what happens with Beaton. I expect the same.
big grin

Once you see Beaton picking up wickets check his action. If he bowls within the limit, he is gentle medium and ineffective.

Was hoping to see Shamar Joseph in the final XI... With Beaton out I will get my wish... He is the ideal replacement for Keemo.

He has more raw talent than any WI fast bowler since Ambrose.

If Bumrah and previously Murali were cleared why discriminate against a darker shade of pigment? Not fair to target our own.

Maispwi 2023-03-29 17:05:17

Once a pelter always a pelter. It is near impossible to overturn years of pelting muscle memory in a short space of time especially when the fall back position under pressure is flexing the elbow

Headley 2023-03-29 19:36:29

I don't know how casual TV observers can be certain about a bowler pelting when the experts need to use specialised equipment and slow motion videos to make that call. I guess I should be happy that we have so many gifted observers in the WI.

What I DO KNOW is that there is NOTHING a bowler can do with his WRIST which will infringe any law in the game of cricket.

doosra 2023-03-29 19:46:32

In reply to Headley

With replays slo mos and all dat it's probably easier to raise suspicion. In the Beaton case the umps sent footage to an ICC accredited institution in England and got word that the action is not...so said Butts

Shaun Pollock the other day was raining a question about some of Reifer's deliveries...2nd t20 i think

Can you explain yourself?

Dukes 2023-03-29 19:59:19

The definition of pelting by the ICC is if your bowling arm straightens by 15 or more degrees. That is a MAN-MADE,ARBITRARY cut off point. How did they arrive at that number?
They looked at numerous bowlers in test cricket and found only 2 bowlers whose arm did not straighten at all.I remember one of those two was Ronnie Sarwan and his gentle leg breaks.
They arrived at 15 degrees because with that number very few people would get into trouble if that was the cut off point.
All this was done to pacify the Sri Lankans who were adamant about Murali and his ability to continue to wreak havoc in test cricket.

Now with that background information, you guys can continue talking but hopefully from a better informed perspective.

Headley 2023-03-29 20:04:59

In reply to doosra

Ok. So it seems Beaton must have been under suspicion for weeks if not months since the investigation takes some time. Thanks.

If Pollock raised the suspicion I hope the WI has quietly launched an investigation.

doosra 2023-03-29 20:37:23

In reply to Headley

Reifer's action for that slower short ball was iffy imho and then Pollock called it...his usual action is fine

Beaton has pelting history....this is his 3rd time
suspended in the past

Narper 2023-03-29 21:18:36

In reply to Headley

Curiously, this isn't the first time Beaton has faced suspension over a suspect action. After only his second ODI appearance against New Zealand in December 2017

2019 -Guyana pacer Ronsford Beaton has been suspended from bowling by Cricket West Indies with immediate effect after his action was deemed illegal by an independent assessor at Loughborough University, an ICC accredited testing centre for suspect bowling actions. Beaton's action was found to be in breach of the permitted 15 degrees under the playing regulations.

I still maintain that Steyn PELTED SOME of his deliveries, particularly some bouncers and some quicker deliveries EXACTLY like Beaton. If Beaton conducts the same ‘tests’ as Steyn did he will not pelt just as Steyn didn’t during the tests.

mikelegend 2023-03-30 06:22:09

Bhumrah TO ME is a little different. His bowling action is initially a straight arm, followed by a ‘rubber’ elbow at the point of delivery. He does it almost EVERY ball.

Well he was the best since Ambrose in 2014.

And Ambrose was once called for throwing by an overzealous umpire in a regional match, so there's that! big grin big grin

Barry 2023-03-30 19:12:45

In reply to VIX
How you know he didn't pelt?

confused

Barry 2023-03-30 19:15:20

Wait he was like Burmah?

Ambrose’s wrist typically snapped forward during the release — which was the reason that Clyde Cumberbatch, the umpire from Trinidad, had called him for chucking once. However, his action is undoubtedly legal: the wrist action — reminiscent of Michael Holding’s and Courtney Walsh’s — added to the nip in his bowling.
