DELHI, India (CMC) — West Indies Twenty20 captain Rovman Powell says he will try to borrow the detailed planning involved in the Rajasthan Royals set-up, when he leads his side into next month’s T20 World Cup.

Powell is part of the Royals outfit which have been one of the standout teams in the Indian Premier League this season, currently lying second on 16 points only by virtue of an inferior run rate to leaders Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 30-year-old said one of the hallmarks of the Royals season was the level of planning being undertaken behind the scenes.

“One thing I like with this team is the way how they plan. I think we as West Indians can plan like that,” Powell said Tuesday, following Royals’ defeat to Delhi Capitals.

“They go into specifics, they go into detail, and I think that has accounted for the overall success of the team.

So basically Rovman is saying WI never plan in any detail during his tenure as a WI player and captain.

So what has been the level of details of plans in the past, if any?

There is only one plan that is successful in T20 and that is putting your best batsmen at the top of the order! That’s has been the recipe since the inception of the format and continues today!

Sammy and Rovman can have this one for free: You do not need more than 6 batsmen in a T20 match. If your top 6 cant bat 20 overs, you are not going to win. If your top 6 does not include someone who can stirke at 300 for the last 10 balls, you are also doomed as it means that one of your lower rate strikers will need to get out by Over 18 to let in the so called finisher. You do need at least 5-6 decent bowlers to strike and contain. I therefore say that the perfect T20 team is 5 batsmen (including a batting keeper) 1 allrounder and 5 specialist bowlers.

any combination can win, it all depends on the situation.

You could have kept it to yourself and wait till team meeting with players and team to share. To go in public with your experience with you IPL team is to me very unethical and no player, let alone the captain should throw his coaching staff under the bus like captain Powell did

Agree, He loves to yap. I guess the English, OZ, and Saffies on the team will not learn anything to take back to their respective team ....

West Indians are too touches and sensitive. There’s a reason why we fell behind in world cricket in general, but what happened in t20 is also a microcosm of that. Look at what’s happened in the past few world cups despite us having some of the best players. We got outsmarted time and again and there’s no way to sugar coat it. Other teams adapt and take training and planning to a whole different level than we cant conceive. The man is right-No sense sticking our heads in the sand.
