on a serious note, ppl rate lara as a bad captain simply because quite a few of the results were
poor. Nobody ever looks at his successes or the limits of the personnel on his team. Lara won the only wisden trophy the WI won in 11 years. Before Kraigg Braithwaite, Lara is also the last west indian captain to go into series with the world test champions and come away with a positive result. Lara also was the captain of the first wi side in 25 years to win an ICC trophy. And then you look at the matchups of lara's teams and the opposition. excluding south africa 1998, where the teams were evenly matched and the result was solely the consequence of the protest and typical pig headed WICB stupidity. when england came here in 2004, they came with harmison, flintoff, hoggard and jones, an attack that beat both SA at hokme and won back the ashes. WI had tino best, corey colleymore and fidel edwards. edwards was good, colleymore was skillful but slw and tino was tino. we had no chance against that attack unless lara scored runs and the english clearly came with very specific plans for him because he was kept quiet for the first 3 tests

Brian lara's only fault was that he was a genius, and geniuses never make good captains. viv was lucky in that he inherited the best team by far in the world and that players were intimidated by him so they got in line
