HEADLINE: Sabina Park to receive state-of-the-art scoreboard valued at $105m from Indian Government

In a move that will revolutionise the cricket experience in Jamaica, the Indian Government has generously donated a cutting edge HD scoreboard to Sabina Park, Jamaica’s iconic cricket stadium, valued at approximately US$700,000 ($105 million).

This game-changing gift is set to elevate Sabina Park to international standards, providing a world-class experience for players and spectators alike.

Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) President Dr Donovan Bennett hailed the gift as a “game-changer” that will have a profound impact on Jamaican cricket.

“The Indian Government has always been kind to us. Their previous donation of lights to Sabina Park was a testament to their love for the game, and this new scoreboard is another example of their commitment to our sport. So when we went to them and approached them, it wasn’t a difficult ask. It was an easy ask,” Dr Bennett told the
Jamaica Observer.

Do they still play cricket at Sabina Park ?

Drapsey 2024-09-02 19:47:04

In other words, they're buying the place.

Wonder if there will be any attempt to erase the Bedi Surrender from the Sabina Park history.

Well, I was just educated, I did not know a scoreboard could cost that much, now they will have to train several people to operate it and those people will have to have computer skills. The ground staff just lost another job.

Doubt if one Indian run shows as two on that scoreboard...asking this for Miss Proff..

Thanks to India ,cricket will continue to be played there...India
gave them Lights a few years ago, this after a Prime Minister Patterson spent over $25Million US
for what became a pitiful WC 2007 at the venue and another $20 million plus to build what is now
a cow pasture in Trelawny for the same venture and without lights of course.

This venue hosted the opening 'ceremony' by candle light and the place has remained
dark for 17 plus years with very little cricket of substance played there even though it is a very
well appointed and a beautiful ground with the Caribbean Sea offering a spectacular backdrop.

And one wonders why cricket is a virtual waste in the land of Headley and Bolt.
It is very sad..and considering that the tax payers are still responsible for nearly $50 Million US debt
for the game...
The teachers, and the medical personnel and progressive young Jamaicans are leaving in droves
to better places overseas at the drop of a hat.
The beautiful country with a rich legacy in cricket is hurting and is a now a shadow of a
once vibrant existence . There is not much hope for GRAND future of the game.

Sabina is now more of a home for Local Football which continues to grow quite well.
All is not lost sad

I think PJ wanted the best for the country but those that came after him weren’t aligned to his vision. He was a Caribbean man who liked cricket.

This big screen will be a good addition if we can get Sabina to the Sabina in the past else it will be another item for Party Promoters to use when Sabina hosts the next Concert

However, I will say thanks to India for the gift. It is more than WICB has given in the recent past

Dude u know you got to be kidding right?
I know you can't be this ignorant wilfully.
An electronic scoreboard takes one operation. Plua their is always the manual scoreboard as thays also a mandate for international cricket. So at any cricket stadium in the oerld of there's an electronic scoreboard there is also a manual one. Some are bigger than some. But a manual scoreboard is always there.

Look mi boss, it is not by coincidence that PJP is the longest serving PM.

Lets put aside any PNP biases. Patterson was a man of the people and was an avid cricket follower. People identified more closely with him than his predecessors.

If he was the leader instead of Norman Manley, we would have had a West Indian Federation.

Perfect for the Soca Parties and football matches. We can sit in the stands, buy drinks and food and watch cricket being played in other Caribbean islands on the big screen!

I guess beggars can't be choosers, but that money could have improved pitches , grounds and training conditions all round the island.

"Perfect for the Soca Parties"
