Barbados Royals vs Trinbago Knight Riders

6pm Second versus fourth. A team with three wins out of three, against a side with two wins out of three. A franchise led by the current West Indian captain, versus an outfit captained by a former West Indian skipper (and one of their greatest ever T20 exponents). Two swashbuckling, left-handed wicket-keeper batters on either side and finishers to fear - the more you look at it, the more the Barbados Royals and the Trinbago Knight Riders seem similar.

But perhaps their most congruent trait is that neither will want to finish the season second-best. The Knight Riders, having reached the final last year, will be longing to win the entire thing. The Barbados-based franchise, having fallen at that hurdle in 2022, will also have eyes on the big prize, having not won it since 2019.

So, this contest is set up tantalizingly. The Knight Riders, downed once already this season, will love nothing more than snapping another unbeaten run, especially in front of what is expected to be a raucous home crowd. The Royals, knowing that the Knight Riders will come hard at them, will, just as dearly, want two points, not just to assert their superiority and but also to reiterate that they are the real deal this season.

Trinbago Knight Riders have won the toss and they have elected to field first.
The reason for chasing, Pollard says, is the dew and the chance of showers later in the evening.
He admits their fielding has not been up to the mark and that is something they want to rectify, while also being able to make the most of promising batting situations.
Still no Bravo and Russell and Pollard hopes they are back in contention by the time they reach Trinidad.
Same team for the Royals too.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaa....whooooooooo hoooooooo cool

Powell adds they have been batting well and that they have to keep improving by 15-20 percent each game.

Barbados Royals XI:
Rahkeem Cornwall, Quinton de Kock (wk), Alick Athanaze, Rovman Powell (capt), David Miller, Rivaldo Clarke, Jason Holder, Keshav Maharaj, Maheesh Theekshana, Naveen-ul-Haq, Obed McCoy

Trinbago Knight Riders XI:
Jason Roy, Sunil Narine, Shaqkere Parris, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Keacy Carty, Kieron Pollard (capt), Andries Gous, Akeal Hosein, Jayden Seales, Waqar Salamkheil, Terrance Hinds

Pitch Report:
We are on pitch no.3 tonight, meaning that the square boundaries are 64m and 66m, with a 75m hit straight down the ground.
The pitch is bereft of grass, says Daren Ganga and he expects the ball to come on nicely.
Average score last season was 183 and he thinks that that could be on the cards tonight again.

I have always been watching it (CPL). To be here now, it is a wonderful feeling. (On his last knock) It has given me a lot of confidence.
(Playing at Kensington Oval) Always a wonderful feeling playing here in Barbados (at home).

edged and gone! Three ducks in a row for Rahkeem Cornwall! Short, wide and there to be hit. Cornwall, though, has a rather loose waft at it without much conviction. The ball bounces a touch extra, grazes the outside edge and Pooran holds on to a sharp chance!

Two dong...

Hosein to Athanaze, OUT
massive shout and the finger goes up! Athanaze has to depart! Fired in on a back of a length on off. This one spins into Athanaze and also keeps a little low. He was looking to swipe it away but the lack of bounce did for him. Struck in front of off stump and Athanaze does not even bother with the review!

Spin from both ends. Here's Salamkheil

three dong

Waqar to de Kock, OUT
knocks him over with an absolute peach!
de Kock has no clue about it and plays well outside the line. The ball breezes through the gap between bat and pad and knocks back off stump. A nod of appreciation and acknowledgement as de Kock walks past Salamkheil, and that is a huge moment in the game!

Waqar to Holder, 4 byes
through everything and everyone! Slider on a length just outside off. Holder looks for the paddle sweep and Pooran, anticipating it, starts moving down leg. Holder, though, misses and the ball then goes through the gap created by Pooran's movement and the fielder at slip

....Review ongoing for an lbw. Length ball that pitches on off and decks back into Holder. Like de Kock in the last over, Holder does not know where this is turning and hangs his bat out. The ball sneaks past the inside edge and raps him on the pads. Did it spin too much? Was it going over?

Four Dong

Narine to Holder, OUT
Narine to Holder, OUT
big lbw shout and the umpire raises his finger! Reviewed by Holder! Length ball that pitches on off and decks back into Holder. Like de Kock in the last over, Holder does not know where this is turning and hangs his bat out. The ball sneaks past the inside edge and raps him on the pads. Did it spin too much? Was it going over? There are murmurs on UltraEdge but there is also a clear gap between bat and ball. Impact is on the front pad and Ball Tracking reckons the ball would have smashed into middle and leg stump. Holder has to go!

The Knight Riders are in control at this stage. The Royals, though, have firepower to come in Miller, along with Powell being at the crease. Salamkheil to continue

Five Dong...

Waqar to Clarke, OUT
holes out to long on! Floated up full on middle and off, enticing the big hit. Clarke buys into that temptation but does not quite get under it. Hits it well but flat and straight to Pollard at long on. Clarke is disappointed but that wicket is a direct by-product of the pressure the Knight Riders have applied post the powerplay!
