Apparently it’s a first in all 50 over not just ours. That is massive.

before the team was picked for England, some of us argued he should and after the team announced, we felt he was hard done...

that aside, some have argued that his omission from the 50 overs team is an injustice

now he has broken down the doors

Ridiculous.
Now the door broke down. He making a case to possibly open for the Bangla ODI series. King seems to have losses a step and we need to not let anyone get too comfortable think they name printed on, on the team sheet.

King must be under tremendous pressure.....if he fail in the final ODI.....Greaves comes in...

Greaves, earned it....

Neither King nor Greaves are openers although Greaves is doing a good job at it in this competition.

I am and have been supportive of his inclusion in the WI team particularly at test and ODI level

I am NOT an advocate of using Justin Greaves as an opener for WI

If Athanaze's poor run of form continues through the ODI series, it will be interesting to see if Greaves has made a case for a middle order spot in the test team. He did not do horribly in Oz and it was unfortunate that he was then passed over for England in favour of Holder when he should probably have been competing with Athas, Kirk and Hodge for a middle order spot rather for the bowling all rounder spot.

Athanaze is playing in the super 50, they dropped him so he could play regional cricket

Greaves only started making significant runs as an opener. His stats were average before. He should be selected for that spot and nowhere else.

What nonsense. Holder is an allrounder. Lately he has been less than effective at either, but he is an allrounder. Greaves is a batsman who is as much allrounder as say Kavem Hodge or Rutherford. Just because Greaves and Holder are Bajans dont make them interchangeable even if you would like it that way.

Are you saying he can make 3 tons in a row opening but cant bat anywhere else in the line up?

Btw by any measure (other than his own exceptional performance this year) Greaves had a good Super 50 last year as well.

Greaves, like Reifer, Springer and Mayers, have seen their batting overshadowing their bowling. Some forget Greaves scored a century batting in the lower order for Barbados a few years back in the regional championships. One good decision was to allow regional teams to have expanded selections. All three of them might have been languishing in Bim never to be seen on this stage. Bim is not the place for young players to be exposed to the higher. If you make a name in Bim then you in the team for life, Despite of your performances after that.

Competition have to be the selection policy. You have to be constantly building your game not letting it stagnate. I really give Chase credit for doing just this.

Rutherford and Hodge are two players that get overlooked also but have become very consistent but doesn't have the name recognition of others. Competition and production should be the guide. No matter the age.

agree he competes with King and Lewis, and right now only King aint' doing too well
It's a healthy competition

As for the middle order Athanaze aint' doing well in these regionals so far he could lose his spot as well.

He did, and last year he was an opener as well.

If he has to bat elsewhere in the line up once selected, so be it. But history has proven that he hasn't come close to matching his production as opener in any other position.

He's had about 4 centuries opening now (in way less innings) vs just 1 in all other positions. It may all be mental for him, but the facts are the facts. He should be given a chance as an opener.

Funny how others allow former allrounders to become great batsmen and we who had the greatest now worry about where a person should bat.

Justin is getting lots of attention from the Performance du jour fans.
Let these people know he played with Dowrich and Kraigg, how many times have I laughed at you for saying he is the best batsman in Bim?
I must say you spotted his potential and stuck with it.
I spoke to my brother last night and shared Justin's feat; he was so happy for our fellow Yorkshireman son.
His uncle was also a local cricketer.
