Atkinson to Will Young, out Caught by Brook!! Finally the breakthrough arrives for England! Superb delivery from Atkinson! Good length in the channel, swinging and seaming away as Young is half-forward to defend, and the outside edge is found quite high on the bat. It just about carries to Brook at second slip where he takes a sharp low catch.

Potts to Latham, out Caught by Pope!! a wicket out of nowhere!! A half volley angling down the leg side, Latham can't resist on the flick and ends up getting a tickle through to the keeper. A cheerful appeal from keeper and bowler, and the umpire doesn't hesitate.

Brydon Carse to Ravindra, out Caught by Duckett!! Oops... Once again Ravindra goes chasing after the wide one. He keeps getting sucked into the same trap again and again! Fraction short and wide outside off, Ravindra punches at it and gets a thick outer edge that flies towards Duckett at a wide gully position.

England have taken the second new ball as soon as it is available.

Atkinson to Southee, SIX, 127.5 kph, Southee dances down, gets hold of the short ball and slams it over deep mid. That was a clean strike.

Stumps on day 1. NZ lost 9 wickets and managed to score 315. NZ batters kept getting starts and kept spooning catches to either point or cover. That's what the story of the day has been.

Ebgland's 17th Test of the year, a record. Only 10 next year, but plenty of white ball cricket.

Agreed, he is occupying an important batting slot and clearly, NZ wants him to own the slot. There's been call for Will Young to be in the starting 11 and #4 has now joined #2, #5 and #6 as potential landing places for him.

William ORourke to Jacob Bethell, out Caught by Phillips!! Is that a bird? Is that a plane? Nope, in this part of the world it is always a leaping Glenn Phillips. Jacob Bethell caves in to the pressure that was created by William ORourke. Slightly fuller and wider, Bethell slashes at it away from his body and gets a thick edge that is gobbled up by Phillips diving to his left from backward point. J

acob Bethell c Phillips b William ORourke 12(33) [4s-2]

William ORourke to Brook, out Bowled!! Wow! England's leading run getter of the series is out first ball here in Hamilton. Superb stuff from William ORourke. 139 clicks, back of a length and shapes back in from outside off. Brook tries to defend but gets an inside edge onto leg stump. New Zealand are in prime position now...

William ORourke to Root, out Caught by Will Young!! Another one! This boy is on fire here in Hamilton. A fast, back of length delivery that angles back in sharply onto off stump. Crammed Joe Root for room as he tried a late cut. Ends up hitting it straight to Will Young at gully. The wrong shot to play for a delivery so close to the body. Big, big blow for England.
