JAMAICA Cricket Association (JCA) President Dr Donovan Bennett believes Dr Kishore Shallow’s commitment to the growth of the sport in Jamaica is a testament to his success during his tenure as Cricket West Indies (CWI) president, as he prepares to serve another term.

Shallow, who assumed office in March 2023, was nominated unopposed for a second-consecutive term as CWI boss earlier this month, along with Vice-President Azim Bassarath whose nomination was put forward by the JCA.

Vincentian Shallow, whose new term begins on Saturday, had previously served as CWI’s vice-president from 2019 to 2023, with former President Ricky Skeritt.

Bennett says Shallow continues to have the backing of the respective regional bodies due to the improvements seen administratively as well as the improvements with the West Indies.

“I certainly wouldn’t be a huge supporter of him for personal reasons, it had to be based on the performance in the job. He inherited a very difficult job, we’re in a very difficult financial position, but he has engineered, manoeuvred, and brought us to a certain degree of comfort as far as finances are concerned. Also, we have seen some improvements in the white-ball game, and I’m looking to improvements in the longer versions as well,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Bennett could be a real Jamaican politician but appeasing the Prez can only be helpful to the poor state of cricket in Jamaica big grin

The man has presidential ambitions. And appears to be variance with his approach to the presidency of the JCA. He is changing tack.
Did you read his campaign platform ideas. It appears he may have been at variance with the organization he was tasked to be Vice President/or whatever functionary he was.
He is being assinine , improvement in Jamaica's cricket will not come from CWI. He has his work cut out for him.

Kissing dottie butt - oh how the worl' is turning.

More seriously, if the gentleman is doing the job he's elected to do, why fight him like crabs in a barrel?

The entire region celebrates when things are on the up n up and we win world championships or merely compete

It’s like JCA and CWI are twins, nothing done by JCA without CWI sanctioning it, not even measures that might improve the poor state of cricket in Jamaica. Look at the proximity of Jamaica to Florida, less than an hour flight and JCA has never even considered having a Jamaican team tour of Florida, a place with so many Jamaican and other Caribbean cricket fans and to give the young cricketers desperately needed exposure, experience and confidence.

The state of Sabina i.e. both grounds and facilities is shameful, disgraceful and that is just from looking at a screen. God knows what one will see if there on the ground. Start wid dat sah Missa Don (pun intended)

That’s because Sabina Park is no longer dedicated to cricket, other sports like football is played there, including high school football, which destroyed the ground. Remember major cricket was not played in Jamaica for a period of time so management had to find alternate lucrative opportunities.

C'mon Slippy man! Sabina is owned by KCC a JCA affiliate which is a CWI affiliate. Which ECB county grung,:Sheffield Shield or any other test nation's (bar Afghanistan) FC ground looks so shabby?

So, based on your own observations, Sabina Park is owned by JCA/CWI affiliate but yet ground is shabby. This only strengthened my point that the ground has not been dedicated for cricket uses, thus not adequately prepared.

I visited the Adeliade Oval, it is used for both cricket and Australian football, it looks better than a lot of single purpose fields!

After I had written that response, I reflected on a similar thought. That having touring teams visit and play in Jamaica.
Also when first class cricket was played all over the island, Kirkvine ,Alpart and Jarret Park. That was an attempt to bring First Class cricket and cricketers to the wider public.
Now I see Headley Cup semi-finals being held in March. How many teams now play Headley? In March you were playing regular inter-zone matches, semi finals and finals were played in July after exams.
I never forgot that Fredericks and Kallicharan before they became institutional names toured with Guyana Sugar team and played against Jamaicas Crum Ewing teams. And those games were all played in the rural areas.
The JCA has got to learn to help themselves. Marketing and Funding have got to be self sustaining. Jamaica Government largesse and CWI dividends are pie in the sky.
