Shame & Disgrace - Guyana Harpy Eagles

Narper 2025-04-12 23:52:59

The three guilty parties must be sanctioned further....losing % of match fees is not enough. It must be determined whether this a team effort cheating and whether cappo Imlach was aware of it.

GHE must forfeit the game to Red Force....and Red Force must be awarded Champions of the regional 4 day championship,

The CWI FINE

CORRECTION: two players guilty of ball tampering

Well said Narper! Also Permaul and Anderson need to be suspended for one season!

Baje 2025-04-13 00:12:16

I wonder how many times they fidelity this during the season

Ray123 2025-04-13 00:18:31

You mean how many times they fidelity over the years.

This is not good for our cricket and will stain our competitions.

Permaul and Anderson.

Anderson is on the verge of making the senior WI team and he's doing that nonsense... something seriously wrong with these guys.

In reply to anthonyp

Anderson is on the verge of making the senior WI team and he's doing that nonsense... something seriously wrong with these guys.

A proper investigation is necessary....is team management involved???.....2 similar incidents of ball tampering in the same match by 2 different players can't be just coincidence...especially when one is the most senior {Permaul} and another is the most junior {Anderson}

Prez Ali as chairman of Caricom cricket committee must order an inquiry if GCB is not going to conduct one.

Really sad events. And I don't see why this was necessary on the part
of the Harpies. Very disappointed about this.
Shameful indeed.

Really shameful. Permaul has been around long enough and I expected better from him. Disappointed in Anderson too.

Unnecessary, disgraceful.

In reply to Narper

Guyana captain Tevin Imlach said his team hangs their hat on playing hard cricket. However, he doesn’t want the Harpy Eagles to be branded as cheats.
Imlach also suggested that there was insufficient evidence to bring the charges against his players.“To use that is going to paint the Guyana team as cheaters or we’re doing something wrong, it’s obviously not a good look. It’s not something you want as a team. It is what it is at this point and we’ll just look to move forward as a team.”

Then why did the players plead guilty?

Baje 2025-04-13 11:53:37

In reply to anthonyp

Anderson is a junior in the team and is probably intimidated by the seniors.

Windiesfan78 2025-04-13 12:48:41

I'm sorry to read this. Totally unnecessary from players on a team that has dominated 4 day cricket in recent years. I was going to say congrats but it is also unfair to the other players who weren't involved to suffer as a result. Those guilty should truly understand that cheating doesn't help your cause to play at the highest level.

In reply to Narper

that is pushing it. guyana did not lose a game. trinidad did. guyana deserved to be sanctioned but TT does not deserve to win the championship.

Overthrow 2025-04-13 14:12:10

One player caught tampering with the ball is an outlier. Two indicates complicity. One can only surmise others knew of these transgressions.
I disagree the government should get involved, let the board of both Guyana and WI show leadership and impose tough sanctions, plus a thorough investigation.

WI_cricfan 2025-04-13 15:12:45

I am calling for a permanent ban on all guilty parties. You just do not wake up one morning and say" I feel like I am going to cheat today"

Permanent ban may seem harsh but the message would be clear: Zero tolerance on cheating.

velo 2025-04-13 15:20:38

guyana cricket under the microscope now people are going to ask if they have been doing this whole season

anthonyp 2025-04-13 15:44:11

The one who should be getting the full penalty is Permaul. Make him an example.

Overthrow 2025-04-13 15:52:58

Past championships will also be in question.

anthonyp 2025-04-13 16:07:02

In reply to Overthrow

Lol you stretching it now... chill.

Pooran was banned for ball tampering.. does that mean all matches that he played in are questionable?

Overthrow 2025-04-13 16:24:32

In reply to anthonyp

Pooran was fielding when his transgression occurred. This instance relates to the bowlers( similar to the situation with Australia). One has to question how long has this been occurring and whom else was complicit. Sorry sir, these past championships are in question.

anthonyp 2025-04-13 16:32:16

In reply to Overthrow

Lol how is it any different? Ball tampering is ball tampering.

Wasn't Kevlon and Permaul fielding too when this shyte occurred?

Or is it because he's your homie all of a sudden his situation is different.

Raskil 2025-04-13 16:51:22

Alex Heles lost an entire international career because he couldn’t be trusted!

Permaul is done internationally and should be domestically also.

The other two, well they need some sort of discipline and rehab in ethics.

Give another team the title.

In reply to anthonyp

What a ridiculous post.

anthonyp 2025-04-13 17:25:39

In reply to Overthrow

Of course it is.. just as ridiculous as yours.

Overthrow 2025-04-13 17:35:13

Think rationally. Pooran was picking on a thread on the ball, which is a strict no, no. The bowlers in question brought a foreign object into the field of play to alter the condition of the ball thereby creating an advantage. This has to be continuous behaviour over time.

anthonyp 2025-04-13 17:37:16

In reply to Overthrow

Huh? They brought a foreign object on to the field? Where did you get that from? Which one of the releases stated that?

Least you could do is post a link to that bit of news. Thanks in advance.

On a side note... what was the purpose of 'picking' on the ball or whatever you claim that he did... isn't it the same as tampering the ball to gain unfair advantage?

Overthrow 2025-04-13 17:51:46

Did you miss the part where the umpire checked pockets?

anthonyp 2025-04-13 17:57:20

In reply to Overthrow

Did they find anything in the pockets? Still waiting for this link.

Onionman0 2025-04-13 18:30:08

Why this unnecessary infighting....

. everyone accepts the act of ball tampering shameful...
Enquiry must be made....that enquiry should be conducted by CWI.... Shallow should be head ....white paper within fortnight...till then Title on hold...

If proven, the conspiracy ran deep...points dock....both players have accepted their guilt....only thing left...if management was hand in glove... incident occurred twice....in both innings.... connivance of seniors including coach and captain should be looked into....

sgtdjones 2025-04-13 18:41:07

Why did they plead guilty?

Overthrow 2025-04-13 19:58:58

They plead guilty because they were innocent. I was of the opinion one particular poster had the integrity of WI cricket at heart. Just been schooled the poster is incredibly naive.

anthonyp 2025-04-13 20:28:18

In reply to sgtdjones

Maybe you could help your countryman to find the link. He can't seem to find it.

Thanks in advance.

Didn't Pooran admit to tampering the ball too? Does that make ever single match that he played in questionable?

De point I am trying to make is you can't go about saying all the people trophies are questionable without any proof. Yes those two clowns tainted this one, but to say all of their trophies are tainted without any evidence is ludicrous.

voiceofreason 2025-04-13 22:18:55

The real question is how long has this been going on as I am sure this is not a one match situation. An inquiry must be ordered by the CWI as this is akin to the Patriot's spygate scandal.

StumpCam 2025-04-13 22:30:02

In reply to voiceofreason

Why would you think that when every match was recorded??? Why do you guys want to introduce evidence that doesn’t exist based on a feeling ??? Steuuups!

sgtdjones 2025-04-13 22:58:19

In reply to anthonyp

The players pleaded guilty, but why if there was no evidence?

Do you understand my sentence above?

anthonyp 2025-04-13 23:35:44

In reply to sgtdjones

Gonna engage you for the last time. Could you and Badree post the link to where they found objects in their pockets?

If not, there's no need to continue this conversation.

Narper 2025-04-14 00:28:11

The charge was laid by on-field umpires Christopher Taylor and Kashif Sandy after the end of the first day.

Permaul admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Michael Ragoonath, and as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Meanwhile, Anderson was fined 90 per cent of his match fee for a similar offence during Red Force’s second innings on day three. He accepted the sanction proposed by the match referee, and as such, there was no need for a formal hearing

All Level 2 breaches carry a minimum penalty of a fine of between 50–100 per cent of the applicable match fee and/or a ban of one match and/or two one-day matches

In each instance the ball was changed, with the batting team given the option to choose.

link

Narper 2025-04-14 00:40:22

the part below don't make sense as the players accepted the penalties and did not contest it.....did someone advise them to do so? Why didnt Imlach protest the ball changes?

When asked what was used to alter the state of the ball, Imlach said, “Nothing was used. (The umpires) just said they saw some foreign substance on the ball. Guys are using sunscreen and stuff like that and if they sweat it’s going to run down. I don’t know if that’s what happened. I didn’t get to touch the ball on the first occasion. They just said they saw something and I wasn’t allowed to touch the ball.

“The second time around, there was absolutely nothing (on the ball). When I did touch the ball, I didn’t feel anything. It just came down to the umpires making a decision with no real evidence to support anything. It doesn’t look good, but it’s out of our control now.”

sgtdjones 2025-04-14 00:42:46

In reply to anthonyp

Is your head really this hard?

Umpires send a report to management; the players are then called to a hearing.
They pleaded guilty, so no formal hearing was required?
This is what I am basing my comment upon.

Show me where I mentioned Badree?

Narper posted above what the players pleaded guilty too!!!!!

Your defence is futile.

anthonyp 2025-04-14 00:48:19

Why do Caribbean nationals bring up irrelevant facts to justify positions?

Guyana Harpy Eagles players Veerasammy Permaul, Kevlon Anderson, and Ronaldo Alimohamed have been found guilty of breaching the Cricket West Indies Code of Conduct in the seventh and final round of the West Indies Championship match against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force at Queen’s Park Oval.

The players pleaded guilty, but why if there was no evidence?

sgtdjones 2025-04-14 18:31:21

The discussion at hand revolves around allegations of rule violations by Guyanese cricket players, which, as acknowledged, they themselves have pleaded guilty to. Rather than addressing the core issue, some of you are resorting to deflection by drawing irrelevant comparisons, such as bringing up Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) in an attempt to shift focus. This tactic does little to refute the allegations or uphold the integrity of the argument.

What relevance does T&T have to these specific allegations? If the goal is to find comfort in such diversions, then by all means, proceed. However, it does not absolve or change the fact that Guyana’s championship title is overshadowed by tainted conduct. Acknowledging this reality is critical if we are to uphold fairness and transparency in the sport.

As a cricket enthusiast, my stance remains consistent: if players from T&T were to violate the rules in a similar fashion, I would be the first to call for their disqualification. Celebrating achievements rooted in questionable practices undermines the true spirit of the game. Integrity must come before blind allegiance.

Is it possible the Trinidadian Board pressured the Guyanese players to plead guilty?

I still want to know what was done to the ball

StumpCam 2025-04-14 20:03:34

Imagine Guyanese so guilty of ripping the ball to shreds, yet the Trinis apparently didn’t lodged a formal protest of the outcome! Go figure!lol
Obviously, the issue has been resolved satisfactorily to all parties involved.
