HEADLINE: There is a monster on the cricket field

CaribbeanCricket.com 2025-06-26 21:03:17

There is a monster on the cricket field.

He doesn’t haunt dreams. He walks tall and proud in broad daylight, wearing maroon, representing the West Indies on the global stage.

He’s celebrated, cheered for, idolized. But to the women he has violated, he is not a hero. He is a predator.

This cricketer is Guyanese. And as I write this column, I have heard accounts from no fewer than eleven women, one of them a teenager who allege that they have been sexually assaulted, raped, or subjected to unwanted sexual advances by him.

There is a monster in maroon, and his violence hides behind a ball and a cheering crowd.

Recently, Kaieteur News reported on an incident involving this player just before he departed Guyana.

Was CWI aware of such allegations?

Be Aware!!!! Alleged Rape Allegations against Guyanese Fast Bowler Cricketer

He must be given the opportunity to prove his innocence, but what is puzzling is the article mentions 11 rapes???shock

CWI@cricketwestindies.org

Dear Sirs,

I am writing to you both regarding a recent video circulating online, which casts troubling statements about your respective offices’ responses to reported actions against eleven women who were allegedly raped in Guyana.

Given the gravity of these allegations and the significant public concern they have generated, I respectfully request your official response to the matters raised. Specifically, I would like to know if the statements and representations made in the video are accurate and whether the actions—or inactions—attributed to your offices reflect the actual circumstances.

Ensuring transparency and upholding the rights of victims are of utmost importance. I trust that your offices are committed to addressing these concerns with the seriousness they deserve and to taking any necessary steps in the interest of justice and accountability.

I look forward to your prompt and considered response.

Sincerely,

Sarge

Sarge, no one is called upon to prove his innocence. the prosecutor must prove his guilt.

Some serious allegations in that video, really would make it seem like the Caribbean top brass covering for a monster

If she is right, then even CWI has a part to play in this

Brerzerk 2025-06-27 00:10:22

True or not I do not now know if I can watch tomorrow's play. Depressing from all sides after watching.
If true bear in mind rape is a heinous act. If false, oh don't know what to say.

At the press conference today I was showering him with praise. I was already writing my next piece on him. Then I just got back to the hotel and saw this. I am devastated because there is the possibility that it may be true. I don't feel like going to the game tomorrow.

The title of this thread alone fcukup the mood for the game…
I’m not one to jump to conclusions.
Small villages in Guyana how can the number grow to eleven without some sort of intervention?

What’s the real story here?

Popularity/money brought out the exposure? <—targeted for the same reasons?

Joshua 2025-06-27 02:59:01

Watch the Hughes interview the person he is representing doesn’t want a financial settlement they want criminal prosecution.

While I don’t condone what have been alleged, one has to wonder why these revelations are only now being made public.
There is something bigger at play here, given the timing. This is not to diminish the accusations leveled at this individual. This has everything to do with the upcoming presidential election in Guyana.
The people who have chosen this particular time to bring this to the fore are known political adversaries of the Irfaan Ali/Bharat Jagdeo administration. Don’t let them fool you with their sympathies towards the victims. Their sole purpose is to use this opportunity to expose the incompetence of the PPP government. You don’t believe me, go research MellyMel and Attorney Hughes. There is a whole lot at stake.
P.S. I have never voted in Guyana and have no political affiliation.

Joshua 2025-06-27 12:59:54

Hughes was only retained on Wednesday by the alleged victim.

Mmmmm, I didn't know that our colleague anthonyp was a politician. He was the first one to post on the subject here.

Secondly it’s kaiteur News who reported it first and SportsMax which is not based in Guyana has also said they have obtained and seen evidence.

I concur an i had already alluded to that in my recent post....WHY NOW!!!....an again not making light of the victim/victims allegations.... on another note i would urge ppl not to read too much into the alleged victim/victims saying they dnt want compensation only justice....Gt ppl know what's what....so will leave that there!!!

conman 2025-06-27 13:19:59

In reply to CCW

Sounds like you trying to shield yourself for facts
If you know GT, then you know the idea of government officials covering up for a friend/celebrity is not that unbelievable

After watching the videos and reading the articles, especially the sickening one Josh just posted, this individual needs to be institutionalized

anthonyp 2025-06-27 13:38:54

In reply to Drapsey

I'm no politician, never was and never will be. All of them are thieves lol

But this is not something that is coming up now. The young lady that Hughes is representing is from since 2023. They had her running around since then.

The latest case allegedly happened just before the player left Guyana (which is recent, 2025). Based on what people are saying, the police are yet to take the victim statement.

I will agree with them that Melly Mel and Hughes might have political motives but that's not the case with the KN reporter. He is one of the most respected sports journalist in the Country.

Where did i say government are not capable of covering up for friends/family or celebrities????.....stick to the WHY NOW...or is it merely a coincidence???.....an i reiterate i am not making light of the allegations.....obviously non-Guyanese will want see this as a mere coincidence coming in the middle of a test match but Guyanese will be little more sceptical to say the least esp with what lies ahead in couple months time....i can't make it any clearer than that!!

Joshua 2025-06-27 13:44:13

Read the stories it’s because there was another alleged incident a few weeks ago.

CCW 2025-06-27 13:53:12

In reply to Joshua

a few weeks ago????......for something like an alleged rape to come to light??.....let me simplify this.....had there not been a test series involving Windies and or an upcoming election in Gt do you think these allegations would have surfaced right here right now???

conman 2025-06-27 13:55:54

In reply to CCW

My point stands
A victim does not have to care when to expose their abuser.
This thing has been going on since 2023, constantly being swept away, the only way justice can happen in those circumstances is to get loud.

Joshua 2025-06-27 13:56:57

In reply to CCW

Read the articles there was a complaint from 2 years ago plus now another recent allegation it had to come to light eventually

sgtdjones 2025-06-27 14:08:22

In reply to CCW, Stumpy

It doesn’t matter when the truth comes out—what matters is that it finally does.

These allegations weren’t made yesterday. Complaints, along with solid data, were handed over to the authorities months ago. Yet, nothing was done.

This isn’t a single case, either. Eleven women, to be exact, came forward. Eleven. They suffered in silence while watching this individual receive praise and even be treated like a hero.

And let’s not forget: in the video, it’s clear that higher-ups stepped in—why, exactly? To hush things up? To protect their own?

The way the Police handled these women was appalling. They were left to deal with their pain alone, ignored and dismissed by the very people who were supposed to help them.

It took one woman, finally, to go to the newspapers in Guyana. Only now is this story seeing daylight. Only now are people paying attention.

So, tell me: where, exactly, does this become about politics or elections? This isn’t about some political game. It’s about real people, real suffering, and a system that failed them—over and over again.

Sarge

Hughes, Fields and Stoby Law Firm representing woman accusing cricketer of rape

Kaieteur Sports – The Law Offices of Hughes, Fields and Stoby has been recruited to represent a young woman from Berbice who has accused a well-known Guyanese and West Indies cricketer of rape, a senior lawyer at the firm disclosed yesterday.“She will be represented by a number of attorneys from the law firm,” the senior representative of the law firm stated.

The alleged victim’s family, speaking exclusively with Kaieteur News, has expressed deep concern over what they describe as a sustained effort by law enforcement authorities to suppress and cover up the incident, which allegedly occurred on March 3, 2023, at a residence in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

At the time, the alleged victim was 18 years old.

WHY NOW!!!

It’s not a coincidence that’s for sure.

The story was released at this time with intent.

The attempt to shame and provoke a response is obvious. The statements from the lawyer leave no doubt as to who is involved.

Enough unsavory business all around.

There was a gentleman at the Press Conference who tried to introduce the issue but he was a coward and would not speak plainly. Of course I am sure it is not you because our Bajan friends are much more savvy and intelligent, and do know how to ask a question.
