That was not right , Sammy and Shallow. Both should have gotten a farewell, in particular Roach who has been more loyal to WI cricket. No problem with the farewell but it should have been done for Roach.
I advocated for Roach to at least play the 1st test against Australia on his home ground as a farewell to his international playing career. I felt that would have been fitting.
But the way how things have transpired, you know who would have been left out to accommodate Roach?
Shamar Joseph.
I have been critical of Darren Sammy (only because he’s St Lucian mind you). But he can’t be criticized about this decision.
The ONLY positive that has come out of the series against Australia is the seam bowling attack. And Shamar Joseph was the spearhead.
Before the series, there was hand wringing that nobody was better than Roach etc.
Well that’s been put FIRMLY to bed.
Not everyone gets a farewell. That’s just how it is. They went out of their way to cater to Kraigg Brathwaite. We see how that turned out.
It would have been nice for Roach to have been acknowledged and honored for his service to WI cricket. But at the expense of the team (as it turned out)?
The correct decision was made.
Russel’s situation is very different. Try some other form of obfuscation.
