another windward island cricket official who clearly knows nothing about the game. shai hope is not a test quality player and the australia series proved that. he got a few starts but it was only a matter of time before the aussies orked him out. by 27 all out, he was totally impotent when coming to run scoring. again no surprise. that he could slot into the test team above both imlach and da silva who were the incumbents was inconceivable....until it actually happed. that bascombe could state that he was first choice in the test side with such assertiveness leads me to seriously question his judgement. that he and shallow have virtually formed a protective cocoon around the sole selector is a glaring indication of severe dysfunction. sammy hasn't answered any questions about 3-0, 5-0 and 27 all out. we've heard from bascombe, swallow, even holder who was not in the team and the skipper. we haven't heard from sammy or his batting coach

For someone who loves media attention as much as Sammy does, it does indeed appear strange that he hasn’t commented at all on any of those issues you mentioned.

Until you realize that while he does love media attention, it seems the caveat is only when there is nothing negative to address.

I guess his expeditions on the boundary edge, gesticulating and barking instructions on the rare occasion WI is in a position to win a match, would or should have been an indicator of behaviour.

Come on Sammy. You wanted the power. You got it.

YOU ARE THE ARCHITECT OF ALL THIS!

You got to face the heat too. Can’t hide when things aren’t going well.

Man up!

WTF is this rating system he is talking about?

These fackers don't have a brain to arrive at sound decisions through a rational thought process? Why is every decision based on some numerical annotation or some flimsy data algorithm?

Steeeupps!!!

I think they watched Moneyball and figured this was the “new” way to go.

Don’t know if they realize Moneyball was released in 2011. Baseball has moved way beyond that now.

Edrich and Sammy are not the same person? If so, then de man addressed all of yall already. In his notebook he got yall down as losers lol

On ah side note my advise to DaSilva is to try and enhance his T20 game... do some power hitting drills and try to make it in franchise cricket.

At least we know now why he was not made captain. He had no standing in the team whereas a man who last played test cricket (and without distinction) years ago was the shoo in for a team place. Once more, it is the poisoned chalice of WI vice captaincy. But as we all point out but no one listened, what about pure batsmanship when a man is the second highest scorer for the FC season. I suppose the response will be that only 11 players can be selected at any one time. Ah well. At least now we kind of know

Isn't that what he did as a "bowler"? He is a coward who has always hid. He is simply hiding from the media now instead of hiding from "bowling".

I am my own person, the only thing I have in common with Sammy, We are Proud Lucians. I will not stand, for any racism. I will defend WI cricket with all my might, because it’s an avenue where men and women can enhance their future. I applaud WI cricket board, for working with Jamaica cricket association to bring cricket back, to Jamaica.
I understand the economic benefits the CPL brings to the vendors of the host countries.
Life has no guarantees.

Hasn't that always been his MO?
Remember he used to throw the ball to the likes of part- timer Marlon Samuels while hiding in the slips, and mindlessly clapping like a seal?

He would only re-emege t o hog the spotlight if the team won!!

That “interviewer” is a joke. Begging a PR wuk while conducting an interview.

SMH

Not just that……Bascombe kept saying the batsmen need to upskill.

Fair enough.

Natural follow up questions weren’t asked:

What does upskilling actually mean?

What metrics determine an “unskilled” player? Have those been identified?

Do we have the player resources to upskill successfully in the various formats of the game?

Do we have the appropriate coaching to impart upskilling to our players?

Are you satisfied with the performance of the coaching staff?

Players are judged on performance or lack thereof.

What metrics are the coaching staff evaluated at?

There are so many more questions. This was about as soft an interview as one could get.

But to be honest, these guys aren’t journalists. They’re social media content creators. They simply after clicks and subscriptions. They masquerade as journalists. And the likes of Bascombe them only too happy to play ball to the likes of them.

Maan.....you are great CROW Eater!!!!lol

Divergence...Like Shallow called Lloyd,Viv and Lara to camouflage the irrational and idiotic appointment of Sammy as all formats coach....

You criticize Brown....joke, masquerade as journalist... without going through the entire interview....post the same interview, Insularity.

It's well within your right to opine personal remarks about me..........but I am happy you acknowledge Brown has done a good job ...

It was disingenuous for CWI to pick Shai Hope as the wicketkeeper in the team. They did not have the guts to pick him as a batsman because his resume to play as a test batsman was extremely slim. Instead they worked out that most people (NOT ME) feel that you look at all the wicketkeepers and pick the best batsman and select that player. That meant that Shai Hope was competing with only Iml;ach and DaSilva for a place in the team.In other words Shai Hope was shoehorned into the team and if he failed with the bat they could say that neither DaSilva nor Imlach had the test batting record to suggest they would have done any better.
Bascom and Co are not stupid when it comes to chicanery but they are miscreants and are bad for WI cricket. It is obvious that Sammy is in love with Shai Hope but they all recognize that he is not going to make runs against top quality fast bowling with that jumping back like a crapaud crap that he does. Incidentally there is a rumor that "a" batting coach sent some videos of the crapaud shot and asked another level 3 Coach how can that be fixed!!!!!!!!

I agree that it wasn’t the right decision to pick Shai as a wicketkeeper/batsman. But I understand why it was done.

Sammy and his team looked at the top teams in world cricket. He looked at their composition and roles that their players have.

They likely looked at the wicketkeeping position in those top teams, and see the likes of Carey, Verryne, Jaime Smith / Bairstow, Pant etc and made a determination that they need that same sort of production from the wicketkeeper with the bat in the WI team.

Given Shai Hope’s ODI record, he was the player that could fit the bill IN THEORY.

However, just like with Roston Chase’s return to the test team, far less being appointed captain, they conveniently ignored the same DATA they claim to swear by, for test cricket.

And now we have what we have.

It’s no different in principle than when this week, Trump trotted out “a respected economist” (aka a Project 2025 architect) to display some made up numbers to counteract the jobs report he didn’t like.

AHHHH. Exactly. in any field ignoring data is a fatal weakness.
