fielding restrictions make the bouncer and consistent probing of the corridor impractical. shai is not the first great odi batsman to suck at tests. Michael bevan averaged well over 50 in odis and only 29 in tests........and was dropped after 19 of them

The rules have changed considerably over the decades, however, I wouldn’t begrudge him of his success!
He’s a great amongst his peers!

not there's always a but when he averages 50 in odis and 24 in tests. i am almost certain he is the only active test player with a quantifiable sample that has this sort of differential. willing to put my head on a block

He has back to back test centuries in English conditions which indicates he has what it takes to succeed in Red Ball cricket. We needed to manage him better. A lil more patience for a world class player . Same for Greaves

the pitch was flat. proof that the wicket was flat and hard was that gabriel thoroughly enjoyed bowling, taking four for 51 in the first innings and it got easier to bat as the test went on. WI scored 427 in the 1st innings, england scored nearly 500 runs in their 2nd. Secondly, none of england's pacers(anderson, broad, woakes) were aggressive pacemen who'd put you through a short pitched barrage

It could be a mental thing
However, he builds an innings cause he's not a short-format player that comes in striking at 120 from ball one
So maybe if he can set his mind to say ok I got at least 40 to 50 overs (cause we opening pair doesn't seem to want to bat out 5 overs lol ) then maybe he can be just as productive. But who knows, it would be nice if he can become a real runs getter, a consistent runs getter in Tests for us as well. Well, he's on his second stint so let's see what happens in India and NZ, this year if he's available.

He wants to play Test cricket as he has a point to prove. Give him time to make the adjustment.

Not accurate.
50 over is a shortened form of the game
T20 is 6 or out junk. It's like 1 set tennis.

You seems to come up with all sort of nonsense to dispute any performance that is not from a soft tit, did Lara not score 375 and 400 on the dead track and the weakest English bowling in ages?

400 was against an extremely strong english attack that won the ashes against australia the year after and one that he struggled badly against that series....and yes the wicket was as dead as a doorknob. which is why 400 not out is nowhere near his greatest innings. but lara has also scored hundreds on extremely difficult wickets like
1) the cracked perth surface in 1997
2) the 153 n.o in barbados where nobody else in the two second innings scored more than 40
3) the 202 at the wanderers
4) the entire sri lanka series in 2001
the fact that after 40 tests hope cant even come close to replicating leeds 2017 even once while mastering the white ball game means that his technique has not up until this time has not been able to pass the red ball examination. As i als said, michael bevan was probably the greatest odi batsman, avbg over 50 and could not average over 30 in tests.

Man, some teams can't even score 400 on a dead pitch much less one man. That 400* is still a great innings dead pitch or not. Most wickets are gotten through unforced errors. Not necessarily good balls but bad execution of the shot. It takes great mental strength to bat and score 400 runs even if batting on a road. Don't belittle that achievement simply because the pitch didn't have demons in it. In the history of test cricket, matches have been played on a lot of dead pitches. Yet only one man has ever reached 400 runs. Why do you think that is? It's not an easy feat.

Question for my friend Fuzzy.

Why was Shai Hope brought back into the test team as a wicketkeeper batsman and not as a batsman?

Do you agree with this?

If you have read my posts to Jumpy you would have noticed that I introduce Lara batted on a dead track was to show that you should look at the achievement of the player rather than to dispute the performance.
