During his brief stay as Windies captain,
he clearly demonstrated that he is not captain material.

In all fairness, in recent times,
only Bravo, Powell, and Pollard looked like captains.

Powell and Bravo are tactical geniuses
Pollard is a tactical genius but also a fearful force to opposition.
Pollard's willingness to go to silly point etc and get in the batsmen's
ears and eye-line demonstrates bravery and bullying that is genius.

Braffit is a joker.
Hope is too timid
Holder was force-ripe and fired when he was maturing.

Jury out on Chase, but I do not like what I saw thus far.
I believe that part of these present captains' timidity is
due to the arrogance of the autocratic head coach
Donkey Scammy.

Chase and Hope speaks good games
and sounds like they know the game;
but Scammy in them ears.

The thing about my fellow Bajans, the best captain of that lot was Brooks...but he couldnt maintain his spot.

My first cricket lesson was at Wesley Hall Primary school, with more than 100 children, for about 2 hours, conducted by Foffie Williams. My first ten golf lessons were videotaped, which were given to me to work with.
I remember videotaping many of the West Indies test matches. I stopped lending them out because my buddy was retaping them for others.

Without video, you guys will be unable will be like others who heard someone who attended the game, and took his words as if it were the gospel.
This is 2025, and the commentators have a voice in their ears, an analyst showing them videos in real time.
Cricket is the only team sport where an on-field captain makes decisions, and knowing the West Indies, we may be the only group that leaves it up to the captain.
I have moved on from discussing captains more than 5 years ago.
As I stated earlier, this is 2025, the technology is available to all teams, you can either use it or blame the poor guy you give the on-field authority to.

To be a good captain you have to absolutely love the game.It is my opinion that few of the current WI players really love the game. They all want IPL contracts rather than making themselves the best that they can be.
Here are some clues
1.Who watches International cricket involving the best players in the world?
2.Who,on their own, studies their opponents prior to playing against them?
3.Who identifies their weaknesses and spends time working on them?
4.Who has read Mike Brearley's book The Art of captaincy?

yeah.......and honestly i lil concerned about tkr this season. yes warner park was flat but the par score on that ground is 200. skn patriots got 19 runs above that and if the 19th over had one more six, then we'd have had a problem. should have given it to da silva

Lots of people here rate Sir Viv as a genius captain.
Not only for his batting, which he did even while not cappo, so why then?

Sir Viv was the biggest cricket bully around at that time.
He threaten his own junior players (ask Lara et al).
He actually went in a commentator box and nearly beat a commentator.
He threaten reporters and spectators
He threatened opposing players, even the fastest pacers.
He imitated umpires, even getting dubious decisions out of fear.

Pollard going up in batsmen face at close fielding positions is a great form of intimidation.
I guarantee that if Pollard was a fast bowler, he would have injured copious batsmen.

Pollard stand up for his team and players.
He is not afraid to do the heavy lifting or face any battles.

Pollard should have been Windies captain long before he got the job,
but we all know what happen with the management.

Yes, face it, Pollard had a lot of the bullying-type tactics that many opposition feared.
Why do you think the Ozzies were so feared over the years.

I probably missed it, but I had the impression that Polly often "bullied" fellow West Indians during CPL and Super50 domestic competitions, but seldom employed what you described as bullying tactics while in West Indies colors. This was especially the case against teams like India and Australia. But I may be wrong smile

Captaincy skills are not something that necessarily comes natural...of course some might be born to lead an just have natural leadership instincts whilst others have to learn on the job....at this point Pooran is just as clueless as Lara was throughout his whole captaincy tenure!!!

Lara was throughout his whole captaincy tenure

the same lara who was captain of the 2004 icc champions trophy, the same lara whose team reached the final of the 2006 tournament. the same lara who is the last west indian captain to play a number one ranked test side and come away with not one but two test victories? the same lara who planned a night before against an india side chasing 120 and mnaged to get his bowlers, led by Ian raphael bishop on his last legs, to clean up india for 81 in his first test as captain. this is the exact type of reasoning that has west indies cricket where it is. if you don't like lara fine....this descent into anti-lara propaganda is counter-productive

lara was as good a skipper as the west indies allowed him to be. the teams who he lost to were better teams than ours. 2004 vs england, pnly a madman would argue that harmison and co, who'd beat australia the next year weren't a better team than us. 2003 vs SA, only a crazy person would argue that smith, kallis and co were not a better team than the wi. the only side that wasn't better than us was new zealand in 1999, and all of us would admit the umpires played a decisive role in that series
