The sad part about Guyana is that almost all of the money that oil companies have been making lately are going to foreigners' bank accounts, the local infrastructure is being slowly improved, not much money to buy better ferries, improve ports, it is rumoured that two of the three military rescue helicopters are not working. It is a disaster

The monies going into foreigners or politician bank accounts. De ordinary citizens don't have anything to get.
As for the helicopters.. its not rumors. The Prime minister confirmed that the two new helicopters are down. He couldn't saw since when.

Corruption and incompetence. And the citizens are being lied to.
- New boat was purchased in 2023 I believe.
- Boat arrived and is still not in use because there is no port/docking facilities for it.
- The 1.4 Billion Port Kaituma Stelling project failed before it was completed - purely based on a substandard design.
- These sequences led to the continued use of the MV Barima.
This is an utter failure at all levels from Government right down to the boat crew.

Captain, engineer test positive for drugs
The MV Barima’s captain and first engineer have been arrested by Guyana police after both tested positive for narcotics.
Tragedy struck on Saturday night when the vessel, carrying an estimated 179 people on board, including 18 crew members, capsized while travelling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma, a small village in the Barima-Waini Administrative Region.
The passenger and cargo ferry capsized approximately seven miles offshore near the mouth of the Pomeroon River while en route to the North West District.

Well they trying to throw all the blame on the crew. The captain and two others are still in custody.
They initially blocked the media but eventually backtracked after the media went public with the issue.
Rumors going around that they recovered at least 50 bodies so far. Nothing official from the ones in charge.
Imagine in times like this the Guyana Police force priority is the opposition leader. Yesterday about 20 officers went at his home to conduct a search whilst de man out there searching for survivors.
Corruption in this Country is next level.
