Ramnaresh Sarwan has assumed the poisoned chalice that is the captaincy of the West Indies team.

The 26-year-old right-hander was confirmed as the 29th captain of the regional team as a WICB meeting today in Barbados. He has been placed on probation with strict performance targets. -teaser-

Sarwan, who takes over from the retired Brian Lara, will lead the West Indies on tour to England next month.* More to come...

Why put him on probation at the very beginning of his tenure?
