CASTRIES, St Lucia – The Selection Panel of Cricket West Indies named fast bowler Kesrick Williams to replace Shannon Gabriel in the Windies 13-man squad for the third and final One-Day International against Afghanistan.

Gabriel sustained a side strain in the second match at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on Sunday and is unavailable for selection for the third match.

The 27-year-old Williams is yet to play in this format. He has so far played eight T20 Internationals, with 14 wickets (average 11.21; economy 5.70).

The third and final ODI will be played on Wednesday. First ball in the day/night match is 2:30pm (1:30pm Jamaica Time).

If they made the decision to replace Gabriel today then is probably a decision based on proximity and availability.

The decision to replace Gabriel would have to have been made early on Monday for anyone coming from Guyana to have a chance of meking it to St. Lucia before match time unless dey were chartering a plane

Orville Higgins, just confirmed what most fans who followed the Windies have been saying for years, the cupboard is bare.

Talking about Beaton, surprised he didn't play the last T20 over Taylor. Very strange seeing Taylor didn't set the series on fire. Woulda been a good time for him to debut. But they try Cummins in the first ODI to see if they can pad up his stats against a weak team and it backfire.

Angel was injured in the last match....as he didn't complete his quota...his history would say he wasn't going to play in the next match
