PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — West Indies speedster Shannon Gabriel has come in for praise from veteran cricket administrator Lockhart Sebastien for his generosity in giving towards the hurricane relief efforts in Dominica.
Sebastien, a Dominican who is also a West Indies selector, said Gabriel made a substantial contribution before he left for the two-Test tour of Zimbabwe last Monday.
“I want to make a special mention [of] Shannon Gabriel. I met him last week and he said to me, 'Sebo, I need to give you some things to take home because things are rough.' I told him no problem,” Sebastien recounted.
“On Sunday he came to the Brian Lara Stadium and he opened his vehicle and I asked him which box should I take. He looked at me and said 'everything'.
“In it were two brand new generators and maybe US$1,000 of stuff, and I said to myself people look at cricketers and say they are greedy. This is a guy with a kind heart … I didn't ask him for anything and he brought all this stuff and you have to congratulate people like that.

yes I forgot that point about the passport privilege. So much "thought" our selectors put into selecting our world conquering team

it would have been more appropriate if the selector had asked the Angel to send the humanitarian gift to the people of Dominica rather than taking it personally.

Perfectly stated, but that is the natural thinking of our Leadership. Back scratching approach.

Hola...those who can afford it must give and share..this is common ethics that humans live by...why is Gabriel's giving newsworthy....???.Its his duty to share and shame if he did not...if he was /is in a position to..
We look after each other..end of story..lets move on.

Sebo was in Trinidad, the generosity of Gabriel was given to a leader who can use it as his discretion. In Trinidad, thousands of items have been sent to the affected countries and citizens of the West Indies. This was a personal gesture of compassion as a West Indies player.
Don't get it twisted.

Didn't you notice the selector publicly declared his gifts.
Context and transparency are important at all times

Every other day I see a container or two leaving Mudland for Dominica...Country helping country is heartwarming.
too much suffering in this world today. The more fortunate must help the less fortunate...and a country don't have to be rich to help....much lumber from mudland has already been shipped to help in the rebuilding process.

But you can see why people can see this as being a conflict of interest case....like someone said above, Angel should have done this to the general population but to single out the selecta.....expect questions to be asked!
Wait till Angel team selection in de balance and Sebo have to cast de deciding vote!

Isn't it strange as Caribbean nationals its seems that everything we do must have some connotations attached?
I want to make a special mention [of] Shannon Gabriel. I met him last week and he said to me, 'Sebo, I need to give you some things to take home because things are rough.' I told him no problem, Sebastien recounted.
On Sunday he came to the Brian Lara Stadium and he opened his vehicle and I asked him which box should I take. He looked and me and said 'everything'.
I was stunned by his contribution and Gus (Logie) made a contribution as well.
Sebastien, a former Windward Islands player, said the situation in Dominica remained grave and any assistance would be welcomed.
I do not see any conflict of interest here. Gabriel didn't notify the press ,it was a genuine donation.
Sebastien declared what he got.It was for Dominica.
Where is the problem?. Whatever was given will help people devasted by a force of nature.

Yep a touch of Trumpism has made it's way into our noble cricket heritage. It does not matter if the gifts are declared or not. It was not intended for the personal use of the Selecta but for his country.
In fact the gifts were made after the Selecta asked for it... Then the Selecta went out publicly to paint a picture that it was a personal influence to get the gift. Bad PR approach. Now what if one day Mr Angel starts being an automatic choice ? Any decision by the Selecta would be questionable.
That being said I am still very happy that one of our cricketers can find it in his heart to make a personal difference. This is what true heroism is about. In keeping with the Trumpisms, Mr Angel came through Bigly !!!!
Wish if our other world conquering cricketers can at least visit the destroyed lands and motivate our people to lift them up. We do not have much and as all proud West Indians we do not ask for much. We are survivors.

This could have been done in so many other ways than to include just the player and the selector
