THANKS to a maiden ton from 20-year-old debutant Sunil Ambris, the visiting Windward Islands lineup were in a commanding position at the end of the first day of their third round West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional four-day clash against Guyana at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, yesterday.
Winning the toss and opting to take first strike on a sluggish track in slightly overcast conditions, the Windward Islands reached 65 from 25.3 overs and were 78 for 3 before ending the day on 289 for 6 off 93 overs, with Liam Sebastien and Alston Bobb their not-out batsmen on 60 and 4 respectively.

It was a wonderful home-coming for Barbados-born, England cricket recruit, Christopher Jordan at Kensington Oval, yesterday.
Playing before his “home” crowd for the first time in his brief international career, the 25-year-old Jordan starred with bat and ball in helping his adopted country England salvage a consolation five-run victory against the West Indies in the third and final Twenty20 International.
Jordan hit four sixes in the last over from Dwayne Bravo, who unwisely served up a number of slow deliveries in a rapid unbeaten 27 off nine balls to push England’s total to a challenging 165 for six.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies selectors announced the 15-member West Indies Women’s squad for the upcoming ICC World T20 Tournament in Bangladesh.
The team will again be led by inspirational captain Merissa Aguilleira, who has been at the helm since 2008.

Barbadians are expected to show up at Kensington Oval today with ‘brooms’ as they are looking for a clean sweep from the West Indies team when they meet in the third and final Twenty20 International (T20I) from 2 pm.
Yesterday, a group of men were eagerly looking to gather old brooms at the Oistins Fish Market in Christchurch and will be at Kensington today armed with their collection, as the West Indies go into the match loading 2-0.
Meanwhile, the West Indies team is expected to give a run to Andre Fletcher, Sheldon Cotterrell and Johnson Charles, who have not featured in the series thus far. With the World Cup just a week away the defending champions would want all their players match ready and the trio is expected to come in.

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – With leaders Jamaica indulging in their bye week, the other six teams in the Regional 4-Day Tournament will be looking to make strategic moves in the table when the third round begins on Friday.
Leeward Islands, with West Indies opener Kieran Powell at the helm, have enjoyed a bit of a revival in this year’s competition, entering this round of matches in second place.
They travel to Port of Spain to face Trinidad & Tobago for their second straight day/night fixture at Queen’s Park Oval.
