St Maarten’s idyllic touristy setting seems a world away from the never-ending drama that is West Indies cricket, which probably explains why the West Indies Cricket Board chose to host the final directors’ meeting of the year there at the weekend.
So many of the organisation’s decisions and policy positions appear completely out of touch with reality, like their stated intention to “continue the discussions about release fees for West Indies players who ply their trade in Twenty20 leagues across the world” at the meeting, even though they behaved as if a decision had not only been made, but was agreed to by other Full Member nations when attempting last month to squeeze out a 20 per cent fee from Kieron Pollard’s employers before he participated in the Ram Slam event in South Africa.
Completely contrary responses from officials in South Africa and Australia (they said the matter was raised by the West Indies at International Cricket Council level but never got beyond a preliminary dialogue) left the impression that the WICB were trying a thing, hardly surprising given the administration’s well-established track record of bewildering behaviour.

Guyana vs Barbados
THE Guyana Jaguars led Barbados Pride by 55 runs with eight second innings wickets in hand at the end of the penultimate day of the Day/Night fourth round Regional Four-Day Championship fixture.Batting a second time,the hosts reached 32-2, when bails were lifted at 22:20hrs last evening at the Guyana National Stadium.
Opener,Shimron Hetymer,and night watchman Gudakesh Motie will resume today on 14 and one respectively.
After bowling the visitors out for 288, the hosts struggled in their second innings, and in the closing stages, Rajendra Chandrika (0) and Leon Johnson (13) squandered their wickets to hand the Barbadians the advantage.

Embattled West Indies middle order batsman Darren Bravo is free to play for the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and has been included in a list of 41 players called to training this week in preparation for the franchise’s defence of the Regional Super50 title.
Bravo’s call-up comes even as he is currently involved in a legal dispute with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) over his dismissal from the One-Day day team on the eve of last month’s Tri Nation series with hosts Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Bravo has sent a pre-action protocal letter to the WICB.
Since his return home, Bravo has not joined up with the Red Force, currently engaged in the Digicel Regional 4-Day tournament as the TTCB sought clarification on his status from the West Indies board.
Contacted yesterday, CEO of the TTCB, Suruj Ragoonath said he had since received word from the regional body on Bravo.

Jamaica vs Trinidad&Tobago
Spinner Nikita Miller took nine wickets on the trot yesterday to steer Jamaica Scorpions to a relatively comfortable 132-run victory over Trinidad & Tobago Red Force in the Digicel Regional four-day match at Sabina Park.
The slow left-arm orthodox bowler, also the captain of the Scorpions, ended with a sensational 9-41 – his best innings figures in first-class cricket – as the Red Force were bundled over in their second-innings for 205 runs, chasing 338 on a wearing pitch.
The 34-year-old’s previous best was 8-41 against the Combined Campuses and Colleges in Barbados several seasons ago.

ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – A critical half-century stand between captain Liam Sebastien and tail-ender Delorn Johnson rescued Windward Islands Volcanoes from disaster on the opening day of their fourth round game in the Regional Four-Day Championship on Friday.
With their side precariously poised on 48 for seven at Windsor Park, the pair came together in a 78-run, eighth wicket partnership to ensure the hosts closed the day on 186 for eight.
The left-handed Sebastien was unbeaten on 59 – his 13th first class half-century – while Johnson, also a left-hander, was on 46 not out and in sight of his second first class fifty.

Jamaica vs Trinidad&Tobago
Jason Mohammed narrowly missed out on his sixth first class hundred but Test batsman Jermaine Blackwood was closing in on his fifth, as Jamaica Scorpions took command of their fourth round Regional Four-Day contest against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force here yesterday.
Replying to Scorpions’ first innings of 314, Red Force were dismissed for 206 after resuming the second day at Sabina Park on 35 for two.
Mohammed carved out a splendid unbeaten 91 while in-form Barbadian opener Kyle Hope got 64, but Red Force tumbled to the spin of leg-spinner Damion Jacobs, who claimed four for 61 and left-arm spinner Nikita Miller, who picked up three for 53.
With a lead of 108, Scorpions batted themselves into a strong position thanks to Blackwood, who was unbeaten on 80 at the close.
